patch 4 prob

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

patch 4 prob

Post by Phoenix100 »

The HttR scenarios don't load. Well, none of the larger ones. Everything else seems to load OK. So - over in the BFTB folder Spearhead V Reich is a long, large scenario, but it loads fine. Can't get anywhere with From the Meuse to the Rhine, or other larger HTTR scenarios. Joe's bridge ok and a couple of others, but larger ones won't run. Little box comes up sayng 'This may take a long time...' And it does. I wait a few minutes then click and it 'stops responding'. Prior to patch everything loaded within a second or so.

The larger 'Brabant' scenario won't load either.

It's not a folder issue, I think, in that I tried moving everything into the BFTB folder. Same prob. Only the BFTB scenarios load ok. And the smaller of the HTTR or user made scenarios.

UPDATE: I waited 4 minutes 35 seconds and FTMTTR loaded. I can wait, but surely this signifies some problem? It didn't happen this way before the patch.

I'll play it a bit, see what happens.

Pheonix..put it all in the feedback thread would be best so Dave doesn't have to search through loads of threads..also don't expect anything until after New Year..;)

It may have something todo with the new conversion process dave was talking about..try it again and see if it loads quicker this time..it may do you never know.

Hi Phoenix,

I was having the same problem .. e.g. From the Muese to the Rhine .. was taking 4 mins 15 secs to load.

It seems that the problem might be related to the Maps.

What I did was load Maas-Rhein.cop into MapMaker, .. and just save the map, overwriting the original.

Now the Muese scenario loads in 3 secs. It's still about a sec slower than the previous version, but, a darn sight better than 4 mins .. etc..

Not sure if this is the absolute resolve to the problem, or what, if any, .. adverse affects might result from this fix. I've haven't noticed anything untoward thus far.

Give it a try, .. [:)]

Thanks Tom. But I wonder what it means? I think I'll just wait for them to look at it. Did you try playing FTMTTR yet? Assuming you order various Brit para units to go straight down to the Rhine then along through osterbeek and sieze the rail bridge (this is what i always do) then I've found that a regular opportunity for 'halting' probs occurs when the lead units make first contact with any enemy, which usually happens just nth of the rail bridge. So far I have noticed units halting there, have seen multiple (about ten) consecutive 'halting' messages in their log, BUT, these are not spread over three or four hours with the unit stuck like that (as used to happen) but only over about an hour, before it moves on (mostly abandoning whatever it was doing). Mmmm. Still testing it.

Ok. Did that Tom - couldn't resist. It must be some kind of conversion problem as it says that's what it's doing when you load it into map maker. Thanks for that.

Hi Phoenix,

I haven't tried playing thru an entire scenario as yet.

I had been determining the new loading times for the HTTR scenarios, when I noticed that some of of them had the same longer times in opening.

e.g. All American over Nijmegan and Mook Right Hook .. were both now taking 1 min 15 secs to load.
They both had one thing in common .. i.e. they use the same map .. Nijmegan.cop

Another pair was Keeping the Island Afloat and Red Devils over Arnhem .. now taking 1 min 30 secs to load .. both use Arnhem.cop

So, I tried the MapMaker thingie, .. which seemed to solve the long load time problem.

Hopefully Dave will confirm what the issue might be.

Cheers

First off, note that this public beta patch only includes converted data for the original BFTB. It does not include converted data for HTTR Ex Pack. So when you try and load a scenario from the HTTR Ex Pack it will invoke the new conversion code we have added. This will mean it will check the version numbers of eac h of the files - scenario, map and estab - and if these are old, then it will run each of the conversions since that version. This brings it up to date. For larger maps this can take several minutes.

The HTTR Ex Pack uses the BFTB estab file, so there should be no conversion necessary for this. So it's only the scenario and map files that are in question. The map files will be causing the delay. As suggested above if you open and save these in the MapMaker then they should load without conversion and hence without delay.

Once we are happy with the public beta we will release a final pacth and this will update any HTTR Ex Pack files.

Can you get it to repeat freom a save? If so zip and upload here and I'll check it out. Please advise what if any orders you gave after the save. Thanks.

Dave,

I am getting CTD's also, I do not have a save...but I have a visual studio debugger dump...course without a debug version of CO..symbols...or source it just shows a summary, assembly and modules loaded. ...says Unhandled exception at 0x008ce07b in CmdOps.dmp: 0xC0000094: Integer division by zero. Not sure if the dump would be any use at all...but if you want it I will send it.
Kind Regards,

Harry

gabeeg,

No the dump of itself is pretty useless. However, if we can get a save taken before the crash, then, provided it can reliably repeat the crash, we can run it through a debug version and find the cause.
