shock armies and soviet guards corps Morale Bonus

Post by matt.buttsworth »

both soviet guards divisions and corps and shock armies receive a morale bonus.
Does this mean guards units should be placed in shock armies to double the bonus or should they be placed in normal armies and the bonus given to other units?

In the 'What's New' .pdf that should be in your WitE folder.

There is also a revised manual in almost every patch where changes & new things are written in red (the old text is still there).

The new ruling, taken from the updated version of the game manual, is:

v1.05.59 - January 31, 2012
Shock Armies and Guards Armies no longer provide a morale bonus to units that report to them (instead they provide a bonus of +1 to their leader’s admin rating).

Increased Admin rating should help them get closer to the MP limit each turn:
1. Start with base MPs (14.1.1)
2. Calculate average fatigue of the unit based on the number and
fatigue of each type of ground element. Reduce the number of
MP’s by the average fatigue divided by ten, rounded down.
3. Check for leader initiative. If all leaders in the chain of command fail the
initiative check, then multiply MPs remaining by 80 percent, rounding down.
4. Check for leader admin. If all leaders in chain of command fail
the admin check, then multiply MPs remaining by 80 percent,
rounding down. Note that units that did not move in the previous
turn will automatically pass their next turn’s admin check.

The advantage of the cavalry corps is mobility in the First Winter, since cavalry have reduced movement penalties for entering enemy territory they provide the Soviet's their ability to actually try an envelopment in the first year.

Also, later in the war the Cavalry Corps will evolve to something mech-corps-like (18012 men, 306 guns, 135 AFV compared to 16339 men, 318 guns, 246 AFV) and inside a Shock Army would enjoy the same bonus as Tank Corps inside Tank Armies, giving you another good punch mobile formation.
