1.06.23 Public Beta Hotfix - English and German versions

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

On the main menu screen you should see in the bottom right exe file version 1.06.23 (assuming you are using the hotfix).

I cannot intall as per other comments. Can I assume that if I do not run my current games until a functioning update is available I will not get the factory change issues?

Thanks

Joel,

Just back from vacation. Unzipped the file and copied it into the directory with no problem. I do have windows 7.

Yep everything fine and dandy now. Working fine. Just had to manually copy it over the old file. It seems I did not have the rights to copy over the old file (!).

As long as your opponent has not ended his turn using 1.06.22 version, you won't get the issues that .23 corrects for. If he has, then the game would have to be rolled back to have him play his turn again. If against the AI, you need to run the game from the last AI player turn autosave (or your last turn's save).

Hotfix runs fine (still on XP), but I encountered a possible bug. I haven't seen it in 1.06.22, although I didn't play it for long, so take it with a grain of salt, it might have been already there.

When I assign support units from higher HQs through the "ASSIGN/FORM" button in the division details dialog, the number of available units is always one, no matter how many units of that type are really available. So for example if a HQ has 3 pioneer battalions, it shows only 1, but I can still assign 3. Only after I assigned the third, the unit type disappears.

You shouldn't need a save to verify, for me it works right from the start, e.g. in the 1941-45 scenario.

EDIT: I use the English version.

If you followed Apollo11's suggestions from above and it still doesn't work, you may have to wait for the installer version from Matrix (hopefully next week). If you get it to work, you should use the 1.06.25 version that is now posted in a stickied thread. Here are Apoll11's instructions:

Have you copied the HotFix EXE to WitE game folder?

If yes then you only need to right-mouse-click on it (i.e. the new HotFix EXE) in "Windows Explorer" and select option "Run as Administrator" - that's all!

Joel,
ok copied the exe file from the fix (out of its own file, still inside the wie file) so that it replaced the exe file in the WIE file (well it has todays date on it anyway).
Good news, I no longer get the 801 error.
Bad news it still says my version is 1.06.22 beta.
Any ideas?

Joel,
ok finally managed to view installed version and I have the .25 hotfix :-)
The version in the top left hand screen is misleading (espacially if the variant in the bottom right is concealed behind the taskbar!)
thanks anyway.

What appears on the top taskbar is what's in the registry from the latest "installer" version of the game. As you found, the main menu shows the exe version which is what really counts on the lower right. Glad you were able to get it working. Hopefully the installer will be out next week so everyone can get the latest patch.

Nice to know that there will be an "installer" version. Waiting for that. Wonder what level it will go to as some posts refer to 23, 24, and 25 versions in the mill. No matter, appreciate what comes when it comes.

Concerned though that a few steps forward sometimes leads to another step back. For me, WitW & WitE 2.0 would always be the priority.

It goes to the most recent version IIRC.
