Very good AAR
Well thank you very much. I do try to present the salient details and so on.

ORIGINAL: Jorge_Stanbury
for how long do you plan to play it?
Being a JFB, I can tell you had already win; you have inflicting way too many loses for the AI to recover. That said, you can still have a lot of fun for the next months
I have dreams of waves of B-29's devestating the home island cities. But if I've already won then I'm guessing maybe I should start
over. In the next game I'll just do the Sir Robin Defense and the game will turn out different. Stay tuned.
ORIGINAL: Jorge_Stanbury
Having only played against the AI, I can tell that the key for a longer game is to try to avoid using historical knowledge or strategies that would not work against a human (using PT boats as bait for example).
I'm using my PT boats as bait in my game w/ Jim and he doesn't shoot them either. I'm thinking that maybe I should just return them to
the pool and the problem is solved. I don't have much use for PT boats at Pearl but in the Celebes for example, they could work as
early warning picket ships or something.
ORIGINAL: Jorge_Stanbury
The Japanese AI is in particular very vulnerable because of it inherent "wastefulness"; the Allied AI is as wasteful, but it lives in the land of the plenty, so I think it would still throw good punches later on. Japan on the other hand, had few replacements coming and
its economy, unless it successfully captures the SRA, is going to crash rather soon.
I agree. I'm into 28Mar42 in my game w/ Jim and already I'm seeing the Japanese bases w/ resource centers unable to keep up w/ my
grabbing of them. And there's a lot of one-shot sources where there's resources but no Resource Center present and once you've
moved all those resources they are gone. It's going to be interesting seeing what happens next.

So, I guess I'll start over on my game.Anybody have a favorite scenario that they want to see played?

I know that most people that wants a very challenging Jap AI goes Ironman;

the AI still as wasteful as always, but it has a lot more "toys" to play with

I've heard of the Ironman scenario. Sounds VERY challenging. Have you tried it already?

I've started over. This time I'm using scenario 70, RA 4.2 w/ a stock map. These are the losses for the first day:

I was going through the list of all TF's and found a ship that wasn't made into a TF yet at Abden and for some reason I can click on the anchor symbol all I want to and niothing happens so I'm thinking that I'm playing w/ the altered map data and it doesn't match the map
and so I'm going to have to start over yet again. So I'm abandoning this AAR to start a new one all over again.

Before you restart Larry, what are a couple of key lessons you learnt from this game ?
A couplle of key lessons I learnt from the game?

(1) don't disband a ship in a hex where there is no port and then start a repair because you'll cause the ship to be "stuck" there until the hex has a port. I found that out at Zamboanga when the port was 100% damaged. Had a BB there for minor repairs and didn't happen to notice that it said 0 days for a repair time and put her in repair mode and then when I tried to put it back in service I couldn't. D'oh.

(2) Um.....there isn't a lot of rapid moving around when you're ships are doing ASW and there's a react range you can specify so I
usually just position some PB's and SC's and TB's around my port(s) and then leave them there. The only reason I might move them
after that is if they run out of ammo.

(3) Jap ships seem to "do better" in combat against Allied ships during the early war period. More experience is likely.

(4) the RA 4.2 scenario has attenuated the supply situation a lot over the stock version and the Japanese player has to really micro-
manage the economy to prevent a late-early-war collapse of the economy due to lack of resources. Seems to come to a head in a
time period just after April of 42.

(5) the time committment of a player to a game in PBEM especially is usually total if done correctly. There's lots of things a player
can do even after he/she has sent his/her moves to one's opponent. You can do a map study and make notes on things that need
to be done yet. Planes to be moved, ships to be repaired, ports to be expanded, LCU's to be moved, etc.

I'll think of some more just after I click on "ok".
