OMG! It's been snowing in the UK! This must be an effect of global warming, because this is the first time in living memory that it has snowed in January. Probably, I can only assume that this is why there are bloody photos of snowy landscapes on the BBC website. [:@]

Gosh. Snow in a country in the northern hemisphere, who'd have thought it.

Could be worse. [:(]

This is the view I had on the way to work on Friday morning. Those aren't storm clouds but a solid smoke overcast from a fire that went out of control overnight. It's a shock to wake up to radio warnings concerning small towns under attack only 30km kilometers away. Tragically one person waited too long to get out and was caught in their car.

Better conditions over the weekend allowed the firefighters to get on top of the fire but it still isn't out and they are concerned about a predicted turn around in the weather later this week.

Some of these pictures were taken just down the road from where I am. Bushfires rage across southern Australia

Sorry about the quality but these shots were taken on a mobile phone in poor light conditions.

Edit: I should add that the CFA and other volunteers (from all over the country) who have been doing such a magnificent job and it has been by no small measure of their efforts that have prevented this from being much worse. Thanks Guys.....

Sorry to hear that the fires are ongoing, Reg. I looked at a wildfire map last week and it (Australia) was nearly confluent fires. Very sad. Any rain on the forecast?

Another -14F morning this morning. High today (according to the weatherman) will be 1. Just plain 1. Count it...zero...one.

At least there's no wind. Yesterday was breezy and -12 through much of the day. Wind chill just cuts through ya'. (sigh...)

It was so hot here yesterday. I was forced to open the living room windows to create a bit of cross-breeze. It was either that or turn on the A/C.

I'm sorry, CB. Were you saying something?

You'd better make sure your a/c is working well, Comrade Red Mouse. You'll need it to keep cool whilest the wildfires, urban sprawl and So. Cal. summertime valley temperatures come home to roost in a few months.

At least we won't have to hear any more of your weatherpeople pathetic whining about 59F "lows" at night. [:D]

In the northern parts, it's not uncommon. They have something like that now.

... but as I've lived down in mid-Sweden for a couple of years now, I've softened [:'(]

Temp here is around -10C and I think it's way too cold.

Yeah, well, we have single-pane, uninsulated windows. Anything below 80 can get pretty chilly.
