Not only has Haruna got away, she is not even spotted. The PBY squadron at San Jose has a serious morale problem but 8 birds are still operational. The fighter squadrons are still in good shape. Ground losses were seriously overstated but the runway is at 44% damage. We need to get Denver out of there.

Cagayan now has adequate supply. Big swarm of transports approaching Jolo and Cagayan. Our boys marching on Davao are 1 day out. They arrive tomorrow, attack the day after that.

Forgot to mention that some Sallys attacked our ships at Luganville but were scared off by our snazzy P-43's. Maybe if we build up Ndeni or even land on one of the Solomons they will send more stuff down there.

Influenza has arrived in California. I just throw my clothes in the fireplace when I get home, well most of them. Genetech, which makes Tamiflu, failed to make enough of the suspension for children this year. There is no generic. Their drug is vastly superior to the old stuff, it's quite expensive and people will sell their government supplied flat screens of stolen I-phones to get it but the pharmacies dont have enough avialable. Evidently Genentech have (note cool but erroneous Engrish use of 3rd person plural verb conjugation) some problem with making money.

What they need is a suppry officer.

Roche is the parent company of Genentech. Roche has been making Tamiflu for years. I wonder why they stuck Genentech with the surge supply demand / bad rap?

Anyways, any sort of suppry chain management post 2009 (H1N1 pandemic) that didn't have sufficient suppry of product on hand for another stiff seasonal challenge = corporate incompetence. Heck, the shelf life of the tablet is 5+ years, how could their shelves be bare?

Unless, of course, our infinitely wise public health system in this country is trying to get corporate suppliers to provide their product for free or at a loss. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if this was the cause of the shortage.

Mid 1982 .. Fort Bragg in North Carolina hired contractors to rebuild the baracks starting with the support companies on "Smoke Bomb Hill". Contractor Boss gets brillant idea to move 30' high scaffolding by rolling it on rubber wheels. As the scaffolding hit the sidewalk 13,500 volts arced to the scaffold. The Boss and three workers instantly were electrocuted.

I arrive on scene to note the scaffolding rubber wheels on fire, 3 individuals on fire and one taking an arc from the scaffold at a distance of about 18", chaging up and then discharging little briquetts from his body. I call DFAAE to shut off the power on Gruber road, and get informed that everybody is at lunch .. this scene continues for about 90 minutes until the workers come shut off the power. Fort Bragg was an open base at the time, so the news monitored radio traffic and of course broadcast the facts of the accident where as a girlfriend shows up and has to be restained so she does not follow suit with her now dead boy friend.

It took me about 45 minutes to get all the briquettes into the body bags. There are declared dead at Cape Fear Regional Medcal Center.

The contractors lost the contract as the public embarresment and the news of how this happend was too much for the political folks.

Yet people still touch metal poles, antenna, cranes, etc on to power lines ... somehow the lesson gets relearned every year ..

I was out at Kelso Dunes in the Mojave with my kids when they were about 13 and 9. We parked and started the half mile walk to the massive dunes. We were almost there when a very fast moving storm front, maybe 30-50 mph pace of advance, began to close in. We stop. I order a retreat. Lightning starts...maybe 3-4 miles away and then the strikes start coming every 10 seconds or so. Flash from behind you, then thunder.

As if it wasn't obvious. "Run to the car! Fast!" Everyone on the dunes has recognized the danger and now you can hear screaming and warnings. I decide we are too big a dipole..."spread out!" We are now about 200 yds away from the car and it looks like we can make it so I shelve the idea of us lying flat on the ground and hoping it hits some of the other people instead...nice..eh? Now it starts to rain hard...we make it. There is a guy about 100 ft from us standing on the roof of his high clearance jeep balancing himself with a big whip antenna sicking up about 10 ft above him yelling for his family to hurry up so they can see him get electrocuted.

It scared the hory crap out of my kids. Honestly, I was scared too. Nobody got hit, even the guy on the jeep.
