AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR Nov 01, 43
Battle of New Caledonia and Espiritu Santo.
After a month of preparation, we Allies make a another invasion. And the target is Espiritu Santo then New Caledonia. The defense force here were pulled back by Hongye San in the last two months except one LV7 Airfield Base Nendi. So I don't expect much resistance once our troops land on the ground. A combination of land base planes plus Kido Butai is the number one concern here.
So a few days ago I sent out a bait fleet, including one light carrier CVL Hermes, and a few dozen transports and pretend I'll invade Marcus Island. The combined fleet was anchored at Truk and totally bite the bait. The whole fleet moves to north on the night of Nov. 1st and the most pleasing part is that: USS Cod managed to shot Japanese fleet carrier Amagi twice, with two torpedoes hits and caused the fuel storage to explode.
CV Amagi was believed to sunk 1 day later when getting close to Truk.
This is the first Japanese fleet carrier that Allies ever sunk and it's also the first carriers brought down by submarines. Congratulations on USS Cod!

Espiritu Santo Turkey Hunt
Kido Butai is still 2 days away and maybe Hongye San think it will too late. So the Empire sent out a major strike from Guadalcanal Island.
However, it's 12 hexes from Lunga to Luganville, the furthest place N1k1 George can go even with drop tanks. The escort is extremely ineffective at this distance and just a few planes penetrated the Allies' defense but scored zero.
More then 400 Japs Naval fighters and torpedo bombers were shot down and Allies only lost less than 25 Hellcats. It's reported that the Empire lost more than 150 experienced pilots in this attack while Allies had dozens of pilots promoted to aces.
It's just like a Mariana Turkey Hunt except that it's half a year earlier. I guess it's a good lesson for the Japanese that only keep land base naval attack within the standard range of their fighters.
