Port Demolition

Time of Fury spans the whole war in Europe and gives players the opportunity to control all types of units, ground, air and naval. Not only that, each player will be able to pick a single country or selection of countries and fight his way against either the AI or in multiplayer in hotseat or Play by E-Mail. This innovative multiplayer feature will give player the chance to fight bigger scenarios against many opponents, giving the game a strategic angle that has no equal in the market. The game uses Slitherine’s revolutionary PBEM++ server system.

Port Demolition

Post by Rasputitsa »

Could we have a feature to allow the demolition of ports. Example, Cherbourg - after D-Day the Germans held the port until 29th June 1944 - 23 days, or 3 ToF game turns, and achieved - Wiki quote One American engineer described their efforts as 'a masterful job, beyond a doubt the most complete, intensive, and best planned demolition in history'. First ocean going ship was able to enter the harbour on 16th July 1944, 17 days after capture - nearly another 3 ToF game turns. The port was only available with very low capacity and it took months to get the port operating at near it's initial through-put.

We have the Soviet evacuation of factories event, could we have a port demolition event, triggered by the advance of opposing forces, or better still allow the player to decided which ports to disable and when. Having a friendlily ground unit in the port, spending PPs, over several turns, to progressively reduce the port level of the chosen port. The opposite is to spend PPs to restore the port, but over a much longer time period. This would be additional to any port level reduction caused by sea bombardment, or air strike.[:)]

How about a random chance that a port will be destroyed, and a random amount of damage, every time a port is occupied/changes hands?

Whatever will work for the AI, as for Allied solo play (thinking of a modified early start Gotterdammerung), I can have more house rules, placing fixed Axis units in all ports and not attacking them, making the ports unusable. Apart from Cherbourg, the Allies did not seriously attempt to capture a major port, until they got to Antwerp.

I would rather have a system where the player decides which ports to trash and when to do it, but we might have to do this for ourselves and maybe 'events' is the way to go. [:)]
