Thinking About Buying?

I've heard good things about this game but its rather pricey for a 2007 release. Not sure why???

Is anyone still playing this game?

Thanks!

Matrix don't discount there older games the only way of getting them cheaper is to wait for the Xmas sale (although there are sometimes other holiday sales) wher you are likely to get a c30% sale discount.

Still play it and it is fun.

There is however rumors of a new version, see here tm.asp?m=3217967

It had potential, but they only did the Pacific Theater, while the DOS version included what-if's European CV's and screnarios.

I thought it was incomplete, and after a while you get bored real fast. The Editor is teadious and adding graphics a pain.

MY recommendation... not worth it unless they decided to dedicate time updates and revamps into what coudl have been a killer game.

Yes the nay-sayer's will probably disagree, but you have the final decision and that's all matters.

Just my two-cents...

Thanks for the comments. I did some more research and decided to go with HPS Simulations Midway which can be had for $30 and was updated in 2010.

Maybe if re-make CaW I'll take another look.

Back in the early 2000s I played and played and played this game. [:)] Loved it!! [:D] Still have very fond memories. The game is dated. Graphics. Game engine. Scen builder. All dated. BUT, if you know this going in and know what you're getting the game can still provide hours of fun. I have not been able to find any game that covers this topic/corner in the computer gaming industry.[&:] Last year Matrix started a rumor they were going to expand the title to include many more battles just like SSG back when originally developed. Not really an update, just more battles. But Matrix never followed through.[:-] If they ever do repackage this game with all those old scens (and there were lots and lots and lots of them), I'll buy it all over again.[;)] My version is so old it won't even run on Windows 7.

I bought it (on sale yesterday). I run Win 7. I can't run CAW.

I have a help desk issue going with Matrix, but so far no luck and nothing major: Update DirectX, update to 1.02, etc. I've tried to run it in different compatibility modes, but nothing works.

I purchased it in the sale, and I have it running on Win7 64-bit. Where did you hit a problem? I was able to open up the tutorial stuff, but I haven't played a game yet.

The game won't launch at all.

From the Game Menu, when I click "play," nothing at all happens.

When I click "Quick Play" from the Start menu, the screen goes black and I can hear music building, but never get any graphics. If I click the mouse key, space bar, ESC, anything, nothing at all happens.

Through trial and error, I was able to get it to load by selecting "Disable desktop composition" on my Compatibility options -- although the cursor still acts a bit flaky.
