Crashes

Time of Fury spans the whole war in Europe and gives players the opportunity to control all types of units, ground, air and naval. Not only that, each player will be able to pick a single country or selection of countries and fight his way against either the AI or in multiplayer in hotseat or Play by E-Mail. This innovative multiplayer feature will give player the chance to fight bigger scenarios against many opponents, giving the game a strategic angle that has no equal in the market. The game uses Slitherine’s revolutionary PBEM++ server system.

Crashes

Post by MarkWayneClark »

I have experienced frequent crashes, always when loading saves. This was annoying but workable in that I knew how to get around it.

Now I have a new problem. A game that was (finally) going reasonably well for me, when the AI gets to a certain point (always the same point), it crashes. I cannot play further into this game unless I can find a way to get around this.

Any ideas?

OK, this is really a game-breaker, if ever the phrase "unplayable" applied, it does now.

If anyone is going to be able to help, you will have to give more information.

What game version
Which scenario
Which nations are you playing
What 'certain point' causes the failure

GD, I click "turn finished" as USSR, it does events and supply, then the germans attack a Russian air unit, right after that attack, crash.  Every time, same point.

Which game version are you using ?

I see you are persevering with GD, my experience with Fall Gelb is better, which others have also said. I am not saying it is perfect, but you may get a better game with some of the other scenarios, as you are certainly not getting much out of GD.

load your autosave file instead of your game save, see if it makes a difference.

Do you think this is scenario-related?

No difference, tried both several times over.  Also restarted.  Also reverted to older version of game.  Same result every time.

I don't know if this particular problem is scenario related, but some of the reported errors are caused by faults in specific scenarios. Have you tried any of the other scenarios and do they give the same problems ?

in documents/my games/time of fury there is a file consoleout.txt. You can open it and check at the end of the file for an error. or you can send the file to Doomtrader along with a zip of the saved game folder.

then quit slamming your head against the wall, and try a different scenario

I was having a similar problem with crashes in v1.03 that made the game seem unplayable. I removed the entire game and loaded from the 1.01, then downloaded v1.04. I have just been told how to fix the air supply/rebase issue in 1.04. I still get an occasional crash, but am finding that by doing what is suggested here, and loading from the autosave file, I am able to continue for many turns on the GD scenario. This v1.04 seems to be working very well for me now. The game is now enjoyable, and I will move on to other scenarios now.

Gave up on the last game, now it's happening again on the new game.

This is a SERIOUS problem.  It's not even been acknowledged, much less addressed.

Also, list the turn number and unit that is being attacked and hex coordinates.

You can also post a console out here.

All of the above will help.

It's different every time but same scenario, playing allies, this time turn 3 (or after turn 3, as the AI starts turn 4).

This really has me spitting mad.  All the other problems are annoying but somehow managable.  But if I can't save a game and start later, then the game is truly just straight-up unplayable and this should either be fixed, pronto, or I should get a refund.  Totally unacceptable. Totally.  Yet no acknoweldgement from the developers.

Are you saying that you have identified this problem and fixed it?

It's rather hard to identify this problem.
It will be much easier with having the same version on both sides.

started yet another game and it's happening again on turn five.  This time I didn't even save, played straight through, crashed when I ended turn 5 and the AI started turn 6.  Restarted from autosave, same crash.

This is, frankly, outrageous.  The game is unplayable, period.

Either fix it or give me my money back.
