as far as I know you can only select it when in a hex with an enemy force
My experience on the Pegu road was If in pursuit mode and w/in one day march of the battle the pursuit troops will participate if a pursuit is allowed. Seems if the adjacent troops arrive in hex before the battle then they will participate in pursuit if placed into pursuit mode the day before.

I note the road and terrain made it easy to execute. If I had been in jungle w/ trail this might not occur.

This is why FatR went from 100000troops to 40000troops on the road to Toungou.
This was discovered by accident. After the initial attack at Tongou about 2/3rd of the divisions arrived 2 days later to make another attack in the immediate SW hex. 1/3rd of the allied divisions were straglers unable to keep up the road movement pace but within 1 day march of the attack. This caused me to set these straggling units to pursuit! Oddly the combat reports showed they participated in the pursuit as I had no units in the original same hex w/ enemy set to pursuit..

really a good blitz style attack. Causes me to wonder why some players complain about the land model.

should the allies continue the steamroller effect and make a cross river attack next to Pegu?
IIRC to avoid a shock attack the attacker must have 1/3rd the combat value of the defender present in the hex from a previous turn.

My armor was ordered to move east. It moved southeast into the enemy hex uncoordinated. Now the armor is headed NE. I guess the computer calculated the fastest move route and changed my orders.

After landing at Manus allies did encounter the IJN fleet and lost some ships...Combat replay indicates FatR is flying in reinforcements to Manus. CA Wichita was in a Bombardment TF that was caught by a RA70 mod Battlecruiser and escorts...she would have made it home if I had provided the TF w/ CAP...

Well, we have reached 1 june 44. I press forward w/ reinforced Marcus island attack and a flanking paradrop at Murgui to the south of Moulmein. With the capture of Rangoon I have begun shelling Moulmein w/ 2x CA TFs every turn plus I switched to night bombing the Moulmein AFields until because I now have 70%+ moonlight. Last turn Moulmein had over 200 fighters on site. This turn Moulmein reports about a 70 ftr count.

The Mergui para assault was made by the 77th chindits who had 100prep for the attack and still struggled against construction engineers and a recon battalion...

We crossed the river at Moulmein. I ordered the army to follow a base support unit and I lost alot of AV...FatR may push me back across the river.

FatR just wacked me good off Port Blair. I should have been more careful...FatR indicates this to be a chance meeting engagement. I was moving my CVTFs to support amphib ops around Moulein and cut the route to close to enemy held islands. Not game ending but a definite hit on my Burma campaign.

Ouch! I assume as a meeting engagement neither of you had DL on your carrier forces before the battle. Any reason your counter punch was relatively ineffective? Grossly outnumbered?

Well all those 2 TFs really did was cover amphibs...w maybe about 8 TBFs on each light CV for offensive punch....also they were not moving together so did not get a combined cap advantage. One TF of CVLs and the other all CVEs..

I was not planning to have a CV battle...I wanted to take a shortcut thru the andamans to kill more LBA that might be on nav attack.

The good news is most of my pilots landed at car nicobar and will be recycled...I did CV inventory...of active CVs

8 fleetCVs
34 CVL/CVE...all still available. I figure I can reassemble a CVE Tf w/ 10 ships in the indian ocean in about 2 weeks. Seems if you put 10 CVEs together they really shoot down LBA.

Also I get about 12 more fleet CVs and about 35 more CVEs...reinforcements...

Seems FatR came up the west side of Sumatra (where I have no search ability) just like the first time against Yubari.

I did score 3 hits, but this was really one sided...I did not have my 10% nav search turned on ...
CVE Shinyo, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
CV Junyo, Torpedo hits 1
CVL Zuiho, Torpedo hits 1

4 big mistakes on my part..
1. I knew the KB was in the area because I had spotted the TFs at the Crakatoa straits 2 turns ago.(should have made a safe move)
2. I was in a hurry to reinforce the Mergui landing but I need CVE CAP to reinforce by sea. Land based IJAAF fighters is attriting my Air trans..(should have took my time and developed the situation)
3. I took a short cut close to the Andamans to support my sea lift.
4. W/ 97% moonlight FatR had one or 2 KI49 sqn on night low naval operating around Lil Andaman and they located my CVL TF at night and drove up my DL before daylight. (Should never have moved close to enemy bases w/ KB in area)
5. Lady luck was with FatR when he caught my 2 TFs separated which divided my CAP. (FatR was lucky w/ the placement of his KB , but extraordinary in his intuition of placing his units at the right place at the right time. Maybe I am becoming too predictable).
