Lets answer your questions in reverse...

5. Here are the suggestions.

4. The smaller the task force, the less likely it is to be detected. Any more than 10 ships, means that your task force will most likely by spotted. Some people ignore this because they figure the task force will be spotted anyway.

3. The CLAA is a lead making machine. You want one of these at least with every task force that will go into harms way. They START the game with as much AA as a regular CA does once all of its upgrades is complete. They won't take the hits that a CA can absorb, but they can deal out the flak.

2. Enough DDs are needed to balance the final number of ships you have in a task force. 4-5 is probably the average, with a couple of CVs, some CA or CLAAs, and the rest destroyers. You need them for when your CV takes a hit, breaks out of formation and needs an escort back through those submarines that are looking for cripples. Make sure you take ones with decent ASW ratings.

1. BBs in a CV task force...use them for the AA if you have to, but they have a use called Bombardment that best uses their firepower.

I think they say that any number over 15 means diminishing returns on AA. Basically the number of ships is too large for the flak umbrella to cover the task force effectively.

Hope this helps.
