A few more than 3 but here goes:

Looking at the games i still play it would have to be:

1) Jagged Alliance 2 (this is a fantasic game that came out in 1999 and still very actively modded)

2) CIV4 (have got CIV5 but still find myself going back to this)

3) XCOM (Enemy Unknown/TFTD/Apocolypse)

Current games i play (in addition to the above)
WITP:AE >>>> Best wargame ever
Distant Worlds
Crusader Kings 2
HoI3

Looking at faves from the past:
a) Team Fortress Classic (most fun ever in a game as [FUNK)Doctoxic - happy days)
b) Ultima Online
c) Halflife 1
d) Hearts of Iron 2
e) Alpha Centauri (SMAX)
f) Master of Orion 2
g) Star Wars Galaxies (up untill they dumbed it down)
h) EU3
i) VGA Planets 3

Biggest dissapointments:
* MOO3
* Gary Grigsby's War in the East
* Sword of the Stars 2 (got a refund it was so bad)

Really looking forward to:
* EU4
* Xenonauts
* DW Shadows
* WITE 2.0

Oh boy, just three?

1 - Grand Prix 4
2 - Championship Manager 1997/98
3 - Imperialism

So many greats to choose from but, in the end, I opted for the three that I have spent the most time on. In each case, there are better modern versions or similar, but they had me spellbound at the time and I have very fond memories of them.

Good question, I wonder my self. Wish they would make a major updated version.

What I find odd is that several of you join me in picking SPWaW as one of your all-time faves. Matrix Games has had several failed attempts at coming up with a successor to this game, but why is that? I honestly have no idea.

It would seem that a modernized tactical game with SPWaW's depth would be a natural choice, but so far they have come up empty. I have some suspicions as to why, but I won't speak of it any more. Let me leave this subject by stating that at one time many years ago, SPWaW was Matrix' flagship game. The ownership of the source code was bought up by Matrix, and the development of the game as it now stands was done by fans of it with assistance from Mike Wood, who was one of the original programmers. This is how the Enhanced Version came to be. It was a strange series of events, and I still don't understand what happened to this day why Matrix decided to wash its hands of it.

[:-] I think that math was not one of your best areas of education CB [:-] The title says 3....THREE...games. Not 2 nor 4 but 3. [8|]

Cute. I elected to put four down because some of the previous responders (almost immediately) put down iterations, sequels or whatnot to their list that exceeded the requested three posts. So I followed suit. So there. [:'(]

1. The Operational Art of War.

2. Aces of the Pacific (flight sim).

3. Taskforce 1942 (naval sim).

Actually, TOAW could occupy 1, 2, & 3. I just threw the others in because the requirement was for 3.

Well spotted, what. In order to avoid you any further embarrassment, one decided it would be kind to adopt the Minnsoda method of numbery stuff and county things.
