Can you tell me about some of these numbers, and their correspondence to squad size, etc?

I'd like to make my own mod.

Thanks

All changes to squads number will be done inside the axsteams and alsteams data sheets.you shall consider three steps for successful modding:
1. change -1 to your required member in soldier list ( from M to V )according to soldier sheet class number. You can add until 10 member per squad.
2. change -1 in soldier type columns ( from W to AF ) for new added member such as 0 , 1 , 3 as explained in data workbook of PITF. but check if you revised a four person team to six person only two cell should be modified.
3. changed the team size column ( AG ) according to your last modification.

All necessary tools you need is Microsoft excel and PITF data work book !! the second one can be found in top of modding forum of game.I think you know!

At end my aim for this improve mod is give the players to deploy all 21 slot in the battle field.the remaining is my thinking to improve some balancing during game play.

Thanks.

I'd just like to deploy/manage full squads, instead of micro-managing fire teams

Note that the maximum number of men per team is 10. So while you can create nearly full squads, you can't make a full strength US rifle squad in one team (as that would require 12 men). You could make 10 man US rifle squads and scale the other squads down to match, though. Say 8 man squads instead of 9, and 7 men instead of 8.

Also, if you create single-team squads you'll also need to modify the unitstructures.txt data so that a platoon only has an HQ and three teams, rather than an HQ and 6 teams.

Single-team squads will reduce the number of teams on the battlefield as well, since the game was designed for two teams per squad, and you're cutting this in half.

I'm trying to figure out how I want to do this. I'm guessing the best bet would be to set the # of teams to be 1, but with 8 men.

correct me if im wrong but when i did this on my own a while back i found out you have to consider if the BG is an INF or ARMD or even a RECON BG i kept getting wierd turn outs that didnt make sense to me at first..i found out down the road that, depending on the type of BG, it makes a difference how you add your teams to each line in the file. But the majority of the BGs just need 8 company sized lines and then add your support teams from there. You can mix them up however you want but as long as they are over company sized then you'll be in the clear. back to my point i think it makes a difference if the BG is armored or infantry based.

Thank you Hausser for the "Dummy Companies". It helped a lot and saved hours.
I've been working on a mod and I was thinking uploading it here when it's ready.

That is good, however concept of support platoon had a negative effect.

generally ten men section is normal formation of both German and American historically, but that is very huge for such a playing system. I think normal head count shall be 5 or 6 men.

Important thing will be complete modified formation structure for completely using all three platoon free of any restriction. As example you should be free to chose each three platoon teams same as support platoon.
