OT - Film Recommendation in German TV

It seems that on this Sunday the German TV station ZDF will start broadcasting a three-part movie dealing with the generation (part 2 Monday, part 3 Wednesday) living in the Second World War, represented by five friends.

The film starts in Summer 1941 when five friends meet, before the inevitably have to split up. Two of them, brothers, will go fight in Russia, one will be a nurse behind the front lines, while the other two - one Jewish - have to deal with the hardships at home. The movie also will show the brutality of the times (a trailer picture shows a SS officer killing a girl), how the worst parts of the characters are brought forward by the system and the war. One of them will execute a Soviet POW, another one - despising the war - turns into a killing machine in the fields of Russia, while the one becoming a nurse betrays a Jewish woman to the SS. The reviews in the German papers have been quite good. Finally a movie that portrays the most brutal front of the war - the East. Aside from Stalingrad the Eastern Front is generally underrepresented in the Western movie landscape. Here a few trailers:

First two trailers are awesome, they suggest some sort of a very different type of "perspective". Hopefully there is an english language version in the pipeline.

Part 2, Battle of Kursk, one of the protagonists deserts, faces execution. By the way, it seems that these videos are only accessible 8pm to 6am CET.

The last part aired today, was in my opinion a good representation of the horrors of war, without being to cliché. The film makers really did a good job in terms of historical authenticity. Starting with the equipment of German soldiers (only officers with MP40, the rest with Mausers), to the anti-semitism of Polish partisans and Soviet soldiers executing wounded Germans who were left in a field hospital.

Looks like a good one. I'll need to wait out the sub-titled versions, but they should be coming. Trailers are promising.

FWIW, try to get a look at "Heimat" which was a German TV serial covering one family from WWI post armistace to post 70's or later. Once could get it at library but no more. Worth two looks.
