Governor support keeps dropping?

Post by daidojisan »

I started a game with 2 human players withdrew all union forces from southern states and also abandoned the union forts located there. After that i took back western virginia so that all the provinces of virginia are under csa rule.

I processed about ten turns after this and noticed that support from all governors kept dropping (some more that others probably because of temper differences).

My question is shouldn't it be possible to keep governor support stable??? Do i overlook something that affects their support in a negative way, or will support always drop.

Virginia starts as a slight ally but despite building buildings winning battles and promoting some generals support has dropped to below 0. Doesn't seem to make sense.

Hope someone can clarify this

Thanks

Just read the manual (p. 167) and found this:
National Will and Attitude – National Will directly affects a player’s level of Attitude among the nation’s governors. NW below -6 lowers the Attitude for all governors by 3 points each turn; if NW is at -12, then Attitude falls by 6 points each turn. These decreases are doubled for opposition governors (Democrat governors in the USA, Republican governors in the CSA).

Just checked to be sure, but national will is stable at 0 so that shouldnt account for the support levels dropping[:(]

I was just messing around and opened the .rep (report?) file in the saved game folder. I saw a section on Governor attitude with the following example entry (this is just for one state):

Governor Henry_T._Clark: attitude is lowerered by -1 to -1due to unopposed enemies in North_Carolina.
Governor Henry_T._Clark: attitude is lowerered by -1 to -2due to unopposed enemies in North_Carolina.
Governor Henry_T._Clark: attitude is lowerered by -1 to -3due to unopposed enemies in North_Carolina.

I don't recall seeing this in the manual but I bet it explains some of what you were seeing.

edit: never mind, I just saw your comment about removing union forces from the south. I'd suggest opening one of your .rep files (I used Notepad, it's just text), it might tell you what's going on.

Thanks for the tip about the.rep file, i will check the file to see if there is any info as to why the governors support dropped that turn.

I just got the game a few weeks ago and haven't turned on Governors yet. I will be interested in what you find.

I saw a section on Governor attitude with the following example entry (this is just for one state):

Exactly where in the save file did you see this entry? also did the entry list all the governors of all the southern states with
their respective ups and downs with regard to attitude?

I have been unable sofar to find any entry as to governor attitude in my save files, despite the fact that support keeps dropping from turn to turn (in varying amounts)

edit: I am a little confused by what I'm seeing. This same set of text is in all of my .rep files, regardless of what turn I played. I do have Governors turned off so maybe they keep getting reset to 0 so the data appears the same each time. I'm also not sure what unopposed enemies I have in many of these southern states (I'm playing the Union side)

Started a test advanced game (governors are on) and ran one turn. The .rep file contains a "Treaty" section that lists losses to Attitude for a bunch of governors. I'm attempting to attach it so you can see what I am looking at. I had to change the extension to .txt for upload to work.
