Please New patch for 1.3 ASAP

Post by Yogi the Great »

I hate to post this, but I think I'll soon stop playing until 1.30 is fixed/replaced.

See other threads but the Russian situation of early surrender plus the perhaps even more the situation of English surrender and/or impotence hurts the game greatly. Even before Russia is out England keeps dropping. Can't really attack can't really defend as either way it just keeps going down.

Great game with great potential but the latest patch situation really hurts it.

Yes, agreed. I have stopped playing completely now. The default position should be that Russia has both its revolutions in 1917 (February and October) unless the player can come up with a plan that enables to continue fighting into 1918. Another default position should be that the USA enters the war in 1917 and that never happens at the moment when I am playing.

Sorry guys that will never happen, the game is not a historic simulation, you can trigger or postpone certain events and we don`t have fixed dates, you can actively alter history buy defeating Russia sooner, provoke or postpone Russian revolution of American entry. We can look at tweaking this again as last complaint it was too hard, now it is too easy... I know some of you don`t like this feature.

Giving up cities and ground will always drop your National Morale, never retreat unless you can without loosing too many PP...

But in my playings of the game with the new patch you end up exactly in the same position with Russia in 1916 whether you are aggressive or defensive. The NM is around 50% and Russia surrenders. Of course this is only the result of my few solo games - I consider myself to be an average games player so perhaps I am missing something. But Yogi is having the same things happen as well so I might have a reasonable point here.

When you say the game is not a historical simulation my reaction is to say - well, it is to a certain extent it is as you have the Entente against the CP's; Belguim normally gets knocked out quickly and it is always a minor power; and the powers are represented proportionally to each other in terms of heir military strength and so on. So there is a great deal of historical simulation, i would say. I suppose the real question is just how much historical simulation there should be - and everyone's tastes are different.

My feeling is that Russia is under-strength in the game and Italy and Portugal are over-strength - so the Entente side could be better balanced (in my view but I may be wrong about this). The CP's side is fine as it is.

I am ready to pay 25 bucks for a Grand Strategy update to CTGW that will give us all the extra details such as full diplomacy, unit experience and battalion addons, and options for American and Russian entry/exit!

Yes, I would pay for these extra features. I have certainly had my moneys-worth from the game up to now.

First it should be clear by the comments in the threads that I very much like the game. This thread was started to help it live to it's potential, make a better game and hopefully increase satisfaction and sales.

Not a "Historic Simulation"? Well perhaps Avalon Hill did that best with big Red and Blue in the classic Blitzkrieg game. But when you use historic countries based on historic events you should at least expect an argument. No one wants it to be an exact simulation and we all want the ability to get a different outcome because of our great generalship.

"Never Retreat" a great slogan for those who want to commit suicide instead of being able to fight another day and win the war not just the battle. Proud to all die around a city even if it means the enemy can just advance with little or no opposition after the battle is not always a good choice and as pointed out playing offensively or defensively makes little difference against the AI anyway.

"We can look at tweaking this again", that's probably all that is needed. If tweaked well it will be one of the best war games out there on any subject.

Please do consider taking the time to "tweak" the game. This game is far too good to become defensive and fail to improve. Not retreating may result in too great a loss.

Don`t worry guys, we tweak and update our games all the time... and so we will keep on improving, updating and patching CTGW, but it will go in steps.

Our next big milestone now is finish porting the engine to Mac and iOS and add and replace some ingame features and finish the game editor.

We appreciate all the feedback, but boy sometimes you guys can all sound so much as... grognards. :-)
