Combat Resolution - Miniatures Campaign

Post by 24th_michigan »

Hi,

Years ago, Avalon Hill promoted EiA to use with their Napoleon's Battles miniatures rules. One of the NB supplements included rules for converting EiA corps counters into NB brigades, and how to use the two games together. The idea was that a game group would use EiA to run a campaign, and then when an "interesting" battle occured, it would be played using NB and miniatures. The results in terms of casulaties, leader loss, etc. were then brought back to EiA. "Uniteresting" or lopsided games could just be resolved using the normal EiA rules.

The group I play with is extremely excited about having EiA on the computer. The logistics of the board game really prevent us from doing much with the campaign game. The game under development here would be perfect!

....... But ......

In order to be useful to us, there would have to be a third combat resolution option --> We would need to be able to manually enter the combat results. No other changes would be required.

I doubt that this has been incorporated into the current design, and I am not sure if it would be posible to do it at this point, but I think miniatures gamers (whatever miniatures rules they use) would find EiA attractive as a campaign system.

Just a note apparently the Napoleon's Battles developers have gotten the rights to their game back from Hasbro, and are working on a new edition. Publication is tentative schedule for late July.

As an serious Empire gamer (NB is terrible for playing Peninsular battles, totally inadequate), the concept has great merit, but cannot see it being implemented.

I would like nothing better, but am afraid the focus is too much on translating EiA into a computer format than anything else.

I agree. It is a good idea overall, but not everyone uses Napoleon's Battles. Which rule set amongst the many that are out there should one favor??

It would have to be one that comprehensively tracks each and every battalion/ regiment/ battery, in my opinion. The miniature gamer would have to do all the work to convert to their favorite rule set. Yet, it looks like a nightmare when one considers the different OOBs as the years went by.

Along with what denisonh says, we just may have to wait for another publisher for that sort of thing.
