Russian Supply and Reinforcements/Replacements

The development team behind the award-winning games Decisive Campaigns: From Warsaw To Paris and Advanced Tactics is back with a new and improved game engine that focuses on the decisive year and theater of World War II! Decisive Campaigns: Case Blue simulates the German drive to Stalingrad and into the Caucasus of the summer of 1942, as well as its May preludes (2nd Kharkov offensive, Operation Trappenjagd) and also the Soviet winter counter-offensive (Operation Uranus) that ended with the encirclement of 6th Army in Stalingrad and the destruction of the axis minor armies. With many improvements including the PBEM++ system, this is a release to watch for wargamers!

Russian Supply and Reinforcements/Replacements

Post by BK6583 »

Playing CB Full as the Germans against the AI. I've taken Stalingrad and Astrakan, control the west bank of Volga from Staligrad to Astrakan, and have been advancing south across the whole Caucusus front. Does taking Astrakan have any impact on:

Russian supply in the Caucasus?

Russian ability to place reinforcements in the Caucasus?

Russian ability to use replacements in the Caucasa?

I think supply flows through the Caspian Sea ports. So as long as they own 1 port, they get some sort of supply.

And from there I assume everything ensues: reinforcement and replacement can go in too.

Perhaps to have a lot of planes around can affect their supply, much like in the Black Sea?

Maybe there are more subtle things but that's my understanding so far...

The Russians have a card they can play that places a supply center in Tblisi. As well..supply can flow in through ports (if they have a port to send it from). Replacements only flow from Stavka, so they will not get any even if they play the Tblisi card. They will also be unable to play reinforcements if they are cut off.

The supply center at Tblisi will be 1/10th the size of the Stavka supply. So they can (fully) supply a front. You will not be able to cut that off. But if you can cut off the Caucaus from the rest of Russia, they will be screwed, and total victory will occur when you own Baku and Stalingrad.

I confess my total lack of knowledge in manipulating screen save files so I can't post a screen shot. Reference my post above, there is a "black hole' of sorts around Astrakan. When I click the supply tab all of the hexes around Astrakan are yellow (tan actually) colored and not green. I have several roads that have been open to Astrakan for several turns - all units are within the Army and Corps HQ 'green zone" - yet I'm in the yellow. Any guesses as to why? Am I past the AP limit from OKH for supply?

As a follow-on, I have 3 full strength transports in the general area of Astrakan. They are in supply and at or near 100% readiness. Yet I can only conduct one supply drop - when I try to use the other two transports, the 'check mark' is greyed out - even when I try to air supply other uniits in other hexes. What am I missing?

The roads cost 3points per hex to travel for supply (6 in mud) >100 cost means not green. A supply drop will supply in an area around it so probably everything that need supply has been supplied with the first drop.

When reading the rules I found this, in 9.9.
Some already replied with most of the information, but here's some more:

»» There are two special high command units (OKH and Stavka) in each scenario and a
third (Tiblisi) can be created by a Soviet action card.
»» If the Tiblisi High Command HQ is destroyed,
no new one will be generated.
»» If the Tiblisi High Command unit is subordinated to Stavka it
means the extra supply will arrive at Stavka instead of Tiblisi. The
advantage of subordinating is that replacements can flow into the
chain of command of the Tiblisi command unit, the disadvantage is
that no supplies will be stocked up since they will arrive at Stavka.
»» The amount of Supply given at Tiblisi is always
10% of the supply given at Stavka.

OK press print screen key when the game is running and the screenshot you want to take is on screen. Then Open a paint program and click paste..viola your screenshot..saves as a jpeg..then you can post it here...making sure to embed it in the post by ticking the box.
