Wolfpack sub tactics

Post by feryveroweb »

Hi friends only an easy question : is the same set in a position a sub patrol TF with 5 o 6 subs (human player , Patrol) , or 5 o 6 sub patrol TF with one sub. Thanks

Either works well right now. After the 2.30 patch you will be penalized for having more than one sub in a hex. I don't think it will matter if they are in the same group or not.

While it's tempting to load subs in a single hex, consider this: if a TF is moving 7 hexes, then you have a base one in seven chance (assuming linear movement) of the TF landing in the hex with your wolfpack. Take a look at the attachment.

By deploying four subs to cover four contiguous hexes, your odds of the TF ending its move in a hex with a sub increase to almost 50-50.

Also, note I chose a chokepoint to guard, but stayed out of the coastal hexes. A sub commander needs elbow room to scoot if "the jig is up" and he is spotted. Depth is the subs friend :)

There are plenty of these "chokepoints" available on the map. They are often a "target rich environment" - and while the enemy knows "that's a good spot for an ambush..." they must decide to run the gauntlet or take perhaps a longer way around the choke point to get to their destination. Making the enemy react to *you* in ways like this is what I believe is one of the finer points of UV.

Have fun! :D
