Road to Moscow "What If?"

Post by r6kunz »

Not a formal AAR, but a comment on mid-game (9 Sep 41) of Road to Moscow, VIII "What if". Me vs Stalin (aka Elmer) The scenario posits Guderian et al convince Hitler to drive to Moscow shortly after the capture of Smolensk instead of the diversion to Kiev (see III. Guderian Turns South, and IV. Kiev). The scenario ends early October with the onset of Raputitsa.
The Germans have the same forces as III., German tank strength at 62%, and are reinforced with only one Pz and two Mot Divisions diverted from Army Group North. Moscow defenses are feverishly being built up.

It is probably inappropirate for the designer to tout his own scenario, but I must say that having been away from it for a year, ( made a few recent tweaks), I find it quite playable. The Germans just took Mozhiaski but are feeling pressure from Velikiye-Luki and Roslavl... I would be interested in hearing how others have found it, and of course comments are always welcomed.

Not such a baby scenario. The screen shot is a vignette of the center of the map in the middle of the scenario. The entire Mitte vs 18 Soviet Armies, the Mozhaysk Line, and the Moscow Defense. Sixty full-day turns to take Moscow before Raputista...
