Rise of the White Fang Mercenaries

Post by Balkor Wolf »

"Mercenaries. Some people call us glorified and expensive pirates, being paid by the rich to attack the weak so that they don't have to bloody their hands however we don't see it that way. We are a security and protection service, we do not attack civilians and we do not invade planets, we only keep an empire's border free of enemy combat ships and they just so happen to reward us very lucratively for it." - Iko Oseri, Leader of the White Fang Mercenaries

o/ Everyone and welcome to my 'As it happens AAR' where I will be playing through a full game of Distant Worlds: Legends as a Mercenary Empire. The plan is that every so often I will check the diplomacy screen looking for any empires that aren't all too happy with each other and after an evaluation of both empires (Evaluations will consist of their military size, their distance from me, their available funds and their current relation level with me.) a trade will be offered to one of the empires for me to declare war on their enemy in return for money, maps, research and anything else I can get my hands on.

Details and rules of the game

Race: Zenox
Government: Technocracy (Subject to change upon first contract)

Ship Rules:
1) All ships are designed by me, including civilian ships.
2) Military ships will not be retrofitted once a new version of that ships has come out.
3) When a military ship is made obsolete it will be removed from the main war fleets and assigned tasks such as escort or patrol duties although should I find myself losing a war these obsolete ships will be reformed into a new fleet in order to protect the empire or act as a vanguard/distraction force against a particularly strong opponent. Alternatively these ships may also be used in enforcing blockades.

Contract Rules:
1) No attacking colonies or civilian ships although mining stations and resort bases are an exception in order to break an opponent's economy and ship building abilities.
2) Contracts will be decided on the criteria as mentioned previously, Empire Wealth, Empire Distance from my fleets, Empire strength and Empire relationship to myself.
3) Contracts will last as long as I feel they are still profitable or until the enemy surrenders, if I start taking heavy losses of ships that cost more than the contract then I may demand peace earlier.

And I think that's pretty much it, I will be adding the first installment later today after I am done with college and hope you guys enjoy =) I may even try to think of ways to include you guys of influencing decisions.

I think you will find it hard to avoid attacking civilian ships while at war.

Also, destroying them is a nice part of ruining them.

Apart form that, nice setup.

Oh I agree, I can't stop my ships from firing on them without a lot of micro management although I won't actively seek them out unless things get desperate. [:D]
