Supply Rant!

Time of Fury spans the whole war in Europe and gives players the opportunity to control all types of units, ground, air and naval. Not only that, each player will be able to pick a single country or selection of countries and fight his way against either the AI or in multiplayer in hotseat or Play by E-Mail. This innovative multiplayer feature will give player the chance to fight bigger scenarios against many opponents, giving the game a strategic angle that has no equal in the market. The game uses Slitherine’s revolutionary PBEM++ server system.

Supply Rant!

Post by baloo7777 »

Convoy routing has been mentioned before, but in Lightening War PBEM game, it is ridiculous! As turns are 1 month, one turn of sunk convoys reduces your low supplied units by 40%. Why the #$%# would I ever send a desperately needed supply convoy to Egypt through the Med, where a single Italian sub does 4HP's damage and destroys it?!! If I take a gamble and send every available unit to NA (early in the war, at the expense of France and/or Norway), I would like to have the best chance possible of supplying my attacking forces. THAT is what the SUEZ CANAL is supposed to do for the Brits... provide supply around the horn of Africa and/or from the Far East! Without the ability to limit losses of supply in Egypt, the Britsh player is severely limited in his choices. Either send the BEF to France (a losing proposition IMHO) or fight in Norway and give up the oil resource to the Axis before he even invades the USSR. That's my rant and I'm sticking to it!

Rant +1

This was a problem for all scenarios in ToF and long overdue for a fix.

Doomtrader has said that there is a large amount of coding in producing a system to let players route convoys manually, but we just need a feature to stop the AI sending convoys beyond Suez Westbound and Gibraltar Eastbound through sea zones in the Mediterranean, if the enemy has naval superiority. The game is already assessing naval superiority in sea zones, when deciding whether an amphibious landing will fail, or not.

Or, a default routing in the Atlantic, unless the player uses a check box for the use of Mediterranean routes, if you are prepared to take the risk, or provide enough support (brings in a strategic decision feature). [:)]

I remember reading in one of these threads a suggestion to make Alexandria a MSS representing the flow of supplies from the east and around Africa. Is that doable? What about adding Canada (as in the Lightening war scenario) and sending convoys from the British colonies there and then on to Great Britian? A lot more sea areas to hide in then.
