Battle of Singling, 12/44

Post by werderwayne »

The most complete after action reports I have ever read, which even included contour maps, aerial photos and all one could ask for is from a US Gov't report called "Small Unit Actions". One of the four actions recounted in the book is "the battle of Singling." In it the 4th armored division sent a company of tanks and about 60 supporting infantry to the town of Singling in order to shield an attack on Rohrbach. In Singling and the hieght beyond) were (and I am going by memory here) 3-5 Panthers, 2 Stg's and maybe 2 or 3 JG IV's. Supporting the Panzers were about 50 infantry hell-bent for surrender. The battle lasted the better part of a day and the result was mixed. While the Germans were kept from firing on the attack of Rohrbach, Singling was not cleared of Germans.

My point is that this would be a great scenario to assemble. Has anyone done one? If I were good at it, I would put one together. The area was VERY hilly, so one would have to be good with contours.

Do you have the info online or know if it is in electronic format anywhere? If not can you at least scan the map? I don't have the book personally or know if it can still be obtained. Can you give publishing info?

Sounds perfect for SP though.

The WHOLE THING is on:

The maps appear very small, but if you click on them, you get a larger than screen image...fantastic! It takes reading through it a few times to figure out exactly what is going on (or maybe my reading isn't what it should be.)

Sounds rather interresting. Might be a perfect opportunity to use the mountainaser conversion from ectizen. Ill have a look on this battle this evening and see if what happens.

Kind regards

The area is VERY hilly, which makes it a bit tougher to make the map.

I am trying to put together a battle of the Müncheberg Division at Gorgast, Tucheband and Golzow on 3/22/45 based on real maps (as opposed to the estimates were used to make the maps for the "Road to Berlin scenarios). Sorry...I really enjoy the game, but many of the maps have little in common with history. I guess when the scenarios were made good maps of the areas weren't available. I only found recently that the area was full of impassable rivers and canals, railroad tracks, a fort with moat and even a soccer field. Unfortunately I am not too good at making maps yet.

Werderwayne,

Could you tell me how did you get access to the “small units stories” pages?
If I try to access one of the higher pages in the hierarchy (like http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/books/wwii/smallunit/, i.e.) I receive only a page error message saying that the page has been removed or has changed address.

Thanks

Hi!

I have the December 1995 issue of the Computer Gaming World magazine. It has an article about Steel Panthers. The bettle in Singling is mentioned there as a specific user-built scenario.
It was the first article I red about Steel Panthers.

OOB in that scenario:

Germans
2 platoon of panthers (8 tanks)
1 infantry company
2 platoons of Jagdpanzer IVs. (4 tank destroyers)

Americans
12 shermans (75 mm)
5 shermans (76mm)
4 M18 Hellcats
1 infantry company
3 machine gun sections
2 artillery batteries

Will anybody make a scenario of it?

Hi and thanks for trying...I just clicked on the link I have on an above post and got right there. If that doesn't work, go to Yahoo! and under search type "Small Unit Actions" -WITH THE QUOTE MARKS and the 1st result you get will be the army small unit action website. Then move down the table of contents until you find a green title called "SINGLING (4th ARMORED DIVISION, 6 DECEMBER 1944)". Click on that and you are all set.

If this doesn't get you through, I'll try to find another way.

I'm working on making this scenerio in the current version 7.1 and possibly H2H. Here is the link:http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/books/wwii/s ... g.htm#pic1

I hope this one works.

Sorry, no. I am kind of surprized you need more than the close-up of the town and the one of the area including Welschoff (sp?) farm.
