Cpt. Vaughn stands topside with a megaphone. The boat has been out of fuel since she ran short in the Gulf of Alaska nearly 1 month ago. The crew have been towing her with oar power from rubber rafts since then. A kindly Humpback named &@*#(#@ had helped them for nearly a day, the tow rope held in her mouth, but she was with calf and had to swim on. The entire battery compartment is awash in seawater and, of course, all the pumps are shot so the captain has taken to ordering the crew about the boat to maintain trim.
