OT..ignore unless you...
...have nothing better to do in your miserable little existence. [:)]
Can someone explain to me this notion of "OT"?
Did anyone really ever get in trouble for posting something "off topic"? What exactly IS the topic and can you get mail service if you have an imaginary number in your street address?
THAT is what I want to know.

RE: OT..ignore unless you...
Cap, knowing your rich sense of humor, I suspect this is mostly a tongue-in-cheek fun posting. However, as I suffer from the fault of sometimes taking things too literally and seriously*, I'll post a serious reply.
"OT" alerts folks that a post really is off on a tangent. There are some here who really appreciate the forewarning so that they don't go off on this tangent. There are some here who get cranky when they aren't forewarned.
*In 1987, I was invited to address the Younger Lawyers Section of the State Bar of Georgia at the annual meeting in Savannah. I was a year out of law school and quite honored by this privilege. So I drove the six hours to Savannah to arrive early that Saturday morning. Dressed in impressive suit and tie, I walked in to the assemblage of leading young Georgia lawyers, prepared to regale them with the importance of the project on which I was working, and found them all dressed in Hawaiian print shirts, shorts, and flip flops, sporting sun burns, and all either drunk or hung over. Not one of those people cared who I was, what I was wearing, or why I was there.

Did they listen to your address???? After all that's why you went there right? It wasn't to impress them with your tie, jacket, or haircut. So I'm assuming like the good war gamer that you are, you blew their socks off (IF they were wearing any of course!).....

No, they didn't listen. This was my first life-lesson in learning to identify an audience before speaking to them.

As I have just been to Savannah, I am aware there are few obstacles to achieving public intoxication in that fine town.
There are some neighborhoods there of such beauty that...well..ummm...you want to cry..there I said it. I am still not convinced that city workers don't secretly hang up fake Spanish moss at night.

Growing up, we didn't need street numbers in my town. My parents got a letter once from a niece in Arizona. The letter was addressed to, "Uncle Bob and Aunt Joan*, Cato, New York." It arrived just fine.ORIGINAL: Cap Mandrake

What exactly IS the topic and can you get mail service if you have an imaginary number in your street address? There are no house numbers in Carmel by the Sea. People's houses have names like Sanctuary and Casa Serenity and other zenlike bullcrap. Mail gets delivered everyday like clockwork.

OT is a TLA, not to be confused with a TLA. Out of the many publicly known potential meanings (1), because of the context in which you ask, you are obviously referring to oblivious transfer, wherein forum members attempt to transfer multiple nuggets but never really know if the readers taste gold or break a tooth.ORIGINAL: Cap Mandrake

Personally, the number of my street address is "Square Root -1" and I get mail all the time, mostly imaginary sweepstakes entry forms.
I can not tell you the topic because I do not know the topic. If I did know the topic I would not tell you. If anyone does tell you the topic, it's a set up. They just want to see if you will tell anyone else. If you ever do learn the topic, tell no one, for if you do, men in black helicopters will come for you. When asked about the topic, the safest thing to say is something like "I don't know, man, I'm just talking OT."

Aha, so if someone says "I don't know, man, I'm just talking OT", there is a good chance the last topic WAS the topic....unless, of course, they were not an insider and blundered into the expression.

You should have told the story about sailing across the Pacific in '44, pretending you were going to invade Luzon, but instead landing on Iwo Jima. Much more interesting than current slip and fall theory. [:)]

So, this thread's topic = off topic? You just blew my mind.
for your address try a series of irrational numbers such as ƒÎ, e, ƒÓ, or ?ã2. Alternatively, use Roman numerals so they won't know whether to sum them or not.

RE: OT..ignore unless you...
I personally think of OT more as wandering, which is a thing that us humans naturally do. It is not that some people post completely irrelevant stuff, most of it has some connection to our game. Admittedly some of it is just noise, like talking about whether or not Nazi's were really just big kids. Also I have seen some stuff about the game that was posted too, and some of that just rubbish. So maybe wandering is what just happens on forums, even real goods one like this one

I lived in a house like that when I was a kid.
But it was in Scotland. So, OT.
