new pc - sluggish

Post by MuguNiner »

Greetings,

I just purchased a new PC! Woo-Who! But AE is slow... It scrolls one hex every three seconds... ugly.

Any suggestions of what to look at/for?

Thanks

You need to set the command line switches to deal with multiple processor core problems. This is a bug with DirectX and multi-core processors. The actual cause varies from computer to computer, so you have to experiment with switches until you get the right combination for your machine.

There are many threads on the forum that cover this. I believe the switches are discussed in the "what's new" PDF included with one of the patches. The switches were put in there for patch #1.

WOW! This thing loads so fast now. I am running win8 and used a suggestion for win7:

-altFont -multiaudio -dd_sw -deepColor -px1920 -py1080 -cpu4

I pulled the px back to 1600 and py back to 900. Looks great! Loads like a bat out of hell! Scrolls faster than superman!

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I just got a new computer too, and I needed the -dd_sw switch to eliminate a lot of lag. I need to figure out
how to slow the scrolling down, I go from left edge to right edge in about .0001 second.

Inside the game, on the settings menu (or whatever exactly it's called - you'll find it), there is a 'scroll delay' type of setting. IIRC it is in 1/10ths of a second.

I was really just joking, boasting about my new computer.

Yes, if that's where you installed it.
