Update to ver 7.1 from the MatrixGames download page. This should cure your problem.

What version is displayed on the bottom of the SPWAW start screen? You can try reinstalling the game overitelf because on occasion not all files get registered within Windows properly. I forgot to tell you there is a glitch in the 7.1 patch install which leads me to believe it wasn't installed properly. During the install process, during the installation path verification you need to remove the space between Matrix Games (MatrixGames), without the space removal the patch gets installed improperly. Also try running the game directly from this file C:\MatrixGames\Steel Panthers World at War\mech.exe this will bypass the autorun menu which can be troublesome. Also look in this directory C:\MatrixGames\Steel Panthers World at War\save and delete these files (if they exist) steel.prf and holder.txt. The game was designed to run at 800x600 16bit so also try adjusting monitor resolution. What type of soundcard are you running. I'll check back later or tomorrow.
