Customized Characters in Shadows

Post by shinobu »

Are modded (customized) characters handled the same way in Shadows as previously? I've been trying to load my personal mod, and it looks like it's working throughout the game set-up, but when I click to "start the game" it starts to create but never stops (the whirling galaxy graphic just keeps whirling- indefinitely). Obviously something in my mod is no longer "right" for Shadows; just trying to figure out what it is...

With extended 3.0 loaded, it took almost 5 minutes to generate a huge galaxy with 35 races. Try letting it go for a really long time and see if it pulls through. I'm not sure if this is because of a modding error or just a fact of life with mods in Shadows.

I'm running a 32 empire game with customized characters and have not had such problems.

Also, if it worked in Legends it will work in Shadows, just you won't have all the bells and whistles. IE no design templates, differing troop images.

And one thing that will cause a problem: a flagshapes folder in the theme. For now I suggest just removing it until the modding guide is available.

Success! Found that my first ambassador's traits were missing. Because it was at the top of the ambassador's list, I missed seeing that these three numbers were not there in my initial review.

You now have a few more options when it comes to custom characters...you do not have to define the traits, the game can randomly assign them with the question mark (?). However the structure must be as follows without
the underscores

0, Fearless Leader, 1, character.png, race,___?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?,___?, ?, ?

In other words, replacing the skill and trait numbers with actual question marks will generate random skills and traits for that character.

Thanks for the heads up Shark7, so essentially we can provide the custom agent images and names for our characters but let the game surprise us as to actual skills, etc.
For those interested, forum thread link to post with a master list of all my DW mods: Link
