XHumans characters - beta version

Post by Solarius Scorch »

Greetings,

Inspired by Myros' splendid human characters mod, I decided to expand the idea a little and do some other races. Obviously, the first faction done would be the XHumans from the must-have Haree78's Distant world Extended mod, as others are much more difficult to find pictures for (though in many cases not impossible).

This mod includes 30 special characters, each with a unique picture, for the XHuman faction: 5 governors (including the leader), 5 admirals, 5 generals, 5 spies, 5 scientists and 5 ambassadors. It is in beta stage.

As for the design concept, I tried sticking to "photoshop-realistic" pictures as opposed to actual photos. I avoided pictures that look cartoonish or manga-styled, as I felt it wouldn't match the original idea of the species. The characters I chose to include are mostly dark, minimalistic and very futuristic, to make them more distinctive, as I feel that the baseline Humans are more byzantine/militaristic. The cleaning work was much more fun than I expected.

Sadly, I am unable to provide credits for most artists, as the pictures were generally found and downloaded via extensive and abusive Google search. I will try to complete this list when I consider this collection done; for now, it's beta until I'm sure I don't want to change/add anything. The full version will likely to come out after I upgrade it to Shadows' standards, which will happen only after I acquire the expansion, and that depends on my funds (i.e., definitely not now).

If you like this little attempt at game enhancement (my first for Distant Worlds!), please comment. If you don't, even more so. The future of this and possibly other similar mods depend on whether I see any interest. :)

As for the installation:
- put the pics in Distant Worlds Extended\characterImages;
- put the text file in Distant Worlds Extended\characters.

Have fun!

Awesome, will have to check it out. I believe there is now a way in Shadows to define characters with random skills/traits, did you do it that way?

There indeed is, and it works beautifully. Simply replace all skill and trait numbers with question marks (?).

This game needs more love for the humans. Good job, and welcome to the DW modding community! [:)]

Not yet, no - I simply don't have the shadows extension at the moment, and also I'm not sure if the community would prefer preset skills or not. When I update this little mod to the Shadows, I'll make this final decision (hint hint: some input would be nice).

Also, here's my first Securan character. :)
