Question on Fleet Retrofits

I know that if I have my ships to auto retrofit in the design screen that as independent vessels the will go and retrofit when they are done patrolling or whatever it is that they happen to be to be doing at that particular time. However I have a fleet of 4 destroyers and 8 frigates that moves when something in the system attacks me and to refuel - but never retrofit. A couple of minutes ago I saw the fleet going to retrofit at my space port however all the ships just refueled and parked in space afterwards again. Is there anyway to have fleets automatically retrofit like the solo ships do without going to the fleets screen and telling them manually.

P.S. I know of the advisor retrofit request but it seems to only happen after a new research project has completed and I believe that last time the fleet didn't update but just refueled.

I always send them individually to retrofit from fleets but make sure they're in a fairly quiet area so that it can be done without them being called off somewhere to attack near by pirates or space creatures etc

Well the fleet just auto retrofitted on its own a moment ago, maybe I'm too impatient. Only time will tell.
