RE: THE THREAD!!!

Post by Apollo11 »

Hi all,

I watched the "Air France 447: Vanished" episode of "Mayday" / "Air Crash Investigation" last night on "National Geographic"...

I was thoroughly disappointed... although this type of show is always considered "light entertainment for the masses" it was below par even for them (i.e. one can watch that show and usually still learn something)... [:-]

The documentary show never even mentioned that Airbus A330 transitioned to "Alternate Law" after pitot tubes froze and AutoPilot disengaged at 10 km altitude... in normal conditions the pilots simply can't stall the Airbus due to all protection mechanisms build in "fly-by-wire" computers... but this is only valid for normal flying (i.e. "Normal law")... in "Alternate Law" this was not the case and pilot error due to wrong inputs with the flying stick stalled the Airbus and plunged it to ocean in long long long 2-3 minute fall during which pilots were totally unaware of their wrong inputs with flying stick... all they had to do is stop yanking the flying stick and push it forward so that the nose of the Airbus lowers and the airspeed increases which would exit the stall... [:(]

I survived it well, left the house in better shape than when Amy left. It ended at 2115 last night when Amy and my son John returned from their trip to DC. Not an egg or sausage patty left in the house... [;)]

Some minute changes in the house, hopefully she won't notice, and hopefully you guys won't tell... [;)] Threw out some piles of hers that she hadn't touched in years, and some old electronics that she kept saying she wanted to recycle, but never did. She will notice eventually, but I can just shrug my shoulders and smile... [:)]

Off to my fun time next Tuesday at 0500 to Columbus, OH for Origins 2013.

You know you have the two week rule in your favor. If she doesn't notice within two weeks, you say it has been like that/there/had that/etc. for a long time. Discussion over.

Swedish descent. Shulind. Or Skjoolind, something like that. (Can't do the umlat thing) And he won't do the Frog Dance either. What is wrong with you people?[:D]

Hmmm ... if it is "Sjölind" as my guess would be, that would translate to "Sea lime" (lime tree).

... and sorry if we can't satisfy your cravings for the Frog dance. I guess you just have to come over and do it yourself [;)]

Yes, I have it on my computer at home. Great color footage. Easy to download. About an hour long.

There is a very good digital animation of the Battle of Santa Cruz. Sound is kinda crappy. American command personel is so-so. But planes, ships and action is very well done. I can't remember from where I downloaded it. It's about a half hour long. It is on U-Tube.
