Back and forth, back and forth.

Lots of commies around us now. More dead ones. :D We reclaim 2 VH's (yay!) and throw back the advance far south. Confusion is all around the battlefield.

7 turns to go...

Turn 29/35

Post by Belisarius »

You're inching more backwards now. :)

Repel troops to the north, south and middle. About a platoon worth of enemies are now dispersed, and all those trucks littering the landscape sure are pretty...

An enemy fighter swoops down on my line, but the game cut before I could see any effects.

We once again hold all middle VH's. :D

4 turns to go...

Post by Belisarius »

I have troops on the top of a ridge just west of the northern VH cluster, and let me tell you, those guys are hugging dirt now. Don has called in his 149mm's to bomb the crest. :p

Many T-26s swarm around the base of the ridge, chasing away approaching infantry. A forward red ATR team manages to take one of them out from a very concealed position in the orchard by the VH's.

They, too, are dead now. And some more trucks. :D

Doom's red forces keep up a good pressure on my lines, I discover plenty of troops everywhere! In the south the situation can only be described as a stampede. :D He tried to outflank me with what must have been at least a motorized company, but now they're down another platoon. T-26s drive here and there all over the field, crushing and shooting up running commies everywhere. What they can't see, supporting infantry uproots.

My lines are pretty much in a mess by now, so if Don manages to knock some heads and bully his Maoists forward, my situation is by no means safe.

Stay tuned for the last few rounds.

turn 31/35

Post by Belisarius »

Holding my own, too! :)

Ugh.... Don has assembled lots of mortars and they're pounding me north to south. Couldn't do much this turn. Chased a few troops away, got killed by my own 122 fire. :p

A Warhawk nails that 45mm gun on the hillcrest! :D Are those the deadliest flyers around or what?! Machineguns, and then they bomb a stretch of FIVE hexes!

Whoo...my ears are ringing from all the artillery. Don's arty is really shaking us around like ragdolls.

We find some more units trying to sneak past our lines. Well they're not sneaking anymore. :D Also found another one of those trucks and prompty blew it to kingdom come.

Biggest upset this turn was a 6-man squad looking for enemies, and stumbled upon a HMG - EVERYONE was wiped out with ONE shot.  Sent in a T-26 to chase it away. Funny, those squads are armed with just the MG itself and a rifle - yet they fired grenades at me. :p

Some Dare Deaths in the north still to take care of...

Hmm...

Post by Belisarius »

....got some of them! :)

Not much movement, the quazillionth 2½-ton truck is turned into a stationary target practice. Find some more Dare Deaths and make them more Death than Dare.

I, for one, am glad that this is just about over. Mao Doom has shelled my lines heavily the last couple of turns, and the results are starting to show. The troops are shaken beyond control, and the front line has effectively ceased to exist at several places.

Btw, I noticed a slight decrease in the shelling on the south front. Are you replotting like crazy, or did my 122's find their way to your mortar park? :D

Meanwhile, at the Nationalist China front line:

*BOOM* *BOOM* *BABOOM*

run away! run away! :p

Don has now assembled a CRAPLOAD of 149'ers.

Lose some T-26s to some mysterious weapon. It seems the CCs has got grenade-rifles in every **** squad, no matter what the OOB says? CC cavalry, MGs, you name it - they're all firing long-range grenades at me. Unless I'm mistaken.

VICTORY!!

Post by Belisarius »

It's over! Both sides are standing exhausted, looking at what remains of the battlefield. The Communist advance is broken off and by the end of the day, the Nationalists hold on to all positions.

*SCORE* ----------------------------------------------

Communusts : Nationalists

Points - 3825 : 9869 - "marginal" victory

Men - 1000 : 272

Arty - 4 : 0

Soft vehicles - 26 : 0

AFVs - 12 : 17
-----------------------------------------------------------

In a short analysis, the battle was won for me as I was able to reach and hold all those per-turn VHs and establish a line of defense there. My T-26 tanks performed admirably - most of them had at least 3 kills, and I could switch them from point to point on the battlefield. Their success was granted by Doom's lack of tanks - I never had to worry about an armored push. Artillery was deadly to both sides, and I think my 122's made a good work of not letting Don attack in an orderly fashion - troops stumbled into my defenses 1 or 2 at a time. That also explains to a large extent why my losses are relatively small. The 122's target area is excellent if you want to keep a large portion under fire.

Now, if Don's AUX forces had arrived earlier (he had at least 7 Ha-Gos advancing on me), it would have been interesting. But as the motorized companies were already beaten off, I don't know if that was decisive.

In all a very entertaining battle, if a bit long. I've learned much, and it was fun to play with "minor" armies for a change.

Password was "china", if you want to check it out. :p
