Post by Jim Stevens »

I have some air units in Fresno that are due to withdraw but wont because the withdraw button is greyed out. How do I get these guys to withdraw? Tried moving a group to SF but still no withdraw button! Help!

Is there a fragment somewhere? Look in the lower left corner if the Unit OOB text is yellow there is probably a fragment somewhere, find it and move it to the same location as the parent. You will have to wait a turn for them to recombine.

If no fragment, just click on disband button.

Ha! I wouldn't have known that! The distinction between buttons is still fuzzy to me and I have to look up on the manual to make sure I am doing what i want. Thanks Sir.

There are quite a few continental US groups that you end up having to disband.

I pull any good pilots out before doing so, not sure if this makes a difference or not.

In general for the Allies, 'Withdraw' groups will return their planes & pilots to the pools, but 'Disband' groups will not. Either way, a msgbox w/ a Y/N confirmation button will show up before the Wd/Db to let you know the story & give you the chance to back out of the deal. For Disbanding units, I always transfer the pilots to General Reserve, remove all reserve aircraft & mebbe even trade the planes out for 2nd- or 3rd-line airframes before Disbanding. Let Eisenhower train his own pilots, these here guys are mine!

"Disband-only" units generally were sent to Europe. They are good "training groups"..when you have to disband them, remove good pilots to pool and then disband.

Thanks neighbor. I will do that and feel good even if it doesn't make a difference.
