Good news and bad news....
RS 1.5 is finished. 3.7 MB zipped.
My ISP chokes on files over 2.5 MB.
Broke RS 1.5 into multiple zips and sent to Rick Saturday past.
Haven't heard from him whether he got it or not.
I can snail mail a Cd to someone if so desired - contact me at:
bdarroch@arionsys.com to arrange it.
Tankhead will probably beat the CD though...
He is probably putting finishing touches on website as we chat....
Cheers,

Cheers,
WiZip 8.1 has a Split File feature, included expressly for the situation here, where a single file would exceed ISP limits. AFAIK versoin 8.1 is current, at least their website says so, WinZip is not all that expensive and it is one of those utilities I wouldn't want to be without.
To each his own, seems to me a sensible answer to the problem. There have to be other compression utilities which can do the same thing.
Bing
P.S. Nothing on Tankhead's site yet.

Darroch - I do understand your problem, however nothing has appeared on Tankie's website and he isn't answering e-mails, to be accurate I should say he hasn't answered the e-mail I sent him this morning. Maybe he is out chasing moose - isn't he the one that lives in Alaska? - I know what that can be like. I dated one.
Anyway, here are some suggestions to get the revised RS rolling:
1) WinZip, which has the mentioned Split File feature, is available in a demo version, don't know if all the options are enabled but why not take a look at it, if you don't have software which can split files?
2) Why not try other sites, such as Fabio's or Redleg's??
Thanks,
Bing

Bing,
As you know the true curse of the SPWAWer is not Tigers, or T34s, or JS-3s.....no, it is the Real World...
Heard from Tankhead today and he received RS 1.5 and from cursory inspection, all looks well...
He just has to find time to post....
I think he is in the Yukon territory - so maybe it is moose season....I remember one time he dropped out for two weeks to go fishing...lucky stiff!
Fabio was the first webmaster to host Russian Steel and we owe him a great debt of gratitude...Tankhead stepped in when Fabio's provider put a ceiling on his site of some sort and he had to make some difficult choices about culling his stuff...
Dunno about Redleg - it would be an honor to have him host RS...
I'll be happy to send RS 1.5 via CD or even via email to anyone who asks...
Send me your email address and I'll shoot it out tomorrow afternoon if you'd like...
I'll take my CD in to work just in case I hear from you
I'll also do snail mail as well - Cds are cheaper than stamps these days!!

If you think Tank is going to post in a day or so, no need for you to go to the bother. But I thought you had an ISP problem? Meaning you couldn't send the entire file in one chunk? Or are you saying you have the file broken down into smaller pieces, which could be sent? I confuse easily.

Brad - Tank is still out chasing the moose, you would think she wouldn't be all that difficult to catch, but what do I know.
Anyway, RS 1.5 is way too good to deny to the faithful. Have you checked with others who might post it?
Did you figure out why the attachments you sent to me arrived with a ".dat" suffix rather than ".zip"? If they didn't leave your machine that way, it would be more than passing strange for them to arrive as such.

Unsure about the zip thingy...
Of course it could never be operator error...
I'll try and sort it out...
I'll fire a tickler to Tankhead and see if he needs some help...
He's been a great support and I'd like to reciprocate....
In the meantime I can send my stealth zips to interested parties...
So, did you meet up with the 150mm IG in Battle 2 yet?
That one'll ruin your day....
Cheers,
Brad
PS...elements of two SS Panzers are running loose in Kharkov in March 1943 - an overstrength tank company has been ordered up in support of 19th Rifle Division near Red Square....

Fixed AI elements such as infantry guns and such are a problem only if I let them be that way. Besides, visibility is limited in battle 2 - at least it is in the battle I played as number two - the 150mm will get a shot or two, then I figure out where he is, call in the 120mm mortars and that usually keeps them quiet until mobile units can deal with them.
Generally I try to send a leg or horse unit to deal with enemy guns and arty. You can blast away all day with 76mm HE and have little effect. As a test (different scenario) I fired 200+ 76mm at a German 88 emplacment, most of them point blank. Plus thousands of MG rounds. Eventually the crew became discouraged, but the piece was so far as I know never scratched.
Course, that doesn't indicate pro-German bias of any kind. Nooooo. Also, we know about the indestructible German 50mm mortar crews, right? In fact, most mortar crews are unbelivably resistant to enemy fire of any kind.
Per usual the AI cheats. In a battle as short as most we play, Nebelwerfen (correct plural?) should have one or at most two reloads, depending upon who you believe regarding the elapsed time during a turn. Good 'ol AI just keeps reloading and firing. Nebelwerfer boys found my mortar park and a rocket took out my ammo dump, with the usual fireworks, interestingly no damage to the mortars lined up in three adjacent hexes. Shor is pretty when she goes off, Newt. I believe the AI pays no attention to limited ammo rules, or to ROF except in a limited way.
No real complaint - the game is still as playable as any.
I whacked the nasty Germans anyway and got a DV earlier than almost any other battle I've played recently under v7.1 - my guess is it came from killing a lot of leg units and knocking out almost all the tanks.
A good sized task force was going for behind-the-lines Russkie VH's at the end, but they were not allowed to even start shooting. Odd. Figuring out the scroing system, even after all these years, could keep a person up all night - if it was worth that much effort to begin with.

FrankW:
Hi! You will need to send me your email address. Reach me at darrochs1msn.com. I can send you the files. There are modest changes to many of the battles and the branching was messed up in a couple of instances. I'd suggest reloading with RS 1.5 and then going for it.
Bing:
The 150s are indeed one-shot wonders - the drama is you survive the first shot...I've lost KVs to those buggers!!
The Nebelwerfers (I thought I'd removed them?!) were deployed next to an ammo dump - so they can reload!!! Sort of a designer "cheat" of sorts....
Dunno about the "no-shoot" task force - I seem to recall a platoon of Mk3s that begin out of ammo and sit and reload for awhile....
Cheers,
Brad
