Have played this now and yes it does have AI to answer my own question, i have only started playing EiA recently since the sale - i love it i think its the best grand strategy game for the napoleonic era that is out there at the moment. Napoleons campaigns is excellent too but its not on as big a scale and so it does well what its focus is.
