Complete Carriers at War?

Post by SapperAstro_MatrixForum »

This is primarily a question for Matrix; Erik Rutins said that Complete Carriers at war was planned to be released early next year, this was stated some months back. The lack of a forum, or any other written word from either Matrix officials or SSG (whose website hasn't seen any action of note for months, if not years...) makes me doubt this.

Is there any word on this product or its stage of development?

It is definitely coming but I don't have info on dates. Erik is about to head off for Thanksgiving but can get you more info next week.

Thank you Iain. I am impressed with your efficiency. I honestly thought this question would sit there for a few weeks without an answer like previous questions I have asked regarding SSG and any future products from them.

Again, thank you.

It had better be better than their overpriced, fluff they brought out last time - I'm all for supporting Australian companies but it was unsupported, difficult to mod, had no campaign mode and was thus completely overpriced.. I believe niche markets can charge more but ... Just look at the pricing for a 2007 sub-standard game even now, even with a 34% discount...

Actually, I had more fun with HPS's Midway (although still has a bug or two) and was eagerly awaiting "Carrier Strike" until Grigsby & co pulled the pin on that for WITW. Phfft ! [;)]

I would be quite satisfied with an updated Complete Carriers at war, especially if it has the same amount of scenarios as the original.

I do agree that they need to do something about the modability of their games, though it must be said that this is a problem with most modern games; with more complexity, especially graphical, comes more needed tools and experience to do anything with them. A long way from the original Battlefront system games...

You stole my thunder Damian. I'd love to be pleasently surprised but I'm looking at this release to be more of the same. Sorry to be a buzzkill all.

I'm hoping someone picks up on Carrier Force because with all the land based ww2 wargames it seems to this consumer naval and/or Pacific is neglected.

Hi guys,

The folks at SSG have had a very rough couple of years, so timelines have been pretty mobile. I'll be chatting with Gregor and Roger during December to narrow down the timeline for CCAW, but I still expect it early next year as of this post.

Regards,

Thanks Erik,

I realise the tough time they have been having, and again I express my sympathy. I just honestly didn't know if these guys were even still in the business.

A couple of years ago a new Kharkov engine game was apparently "Almost done and it is awesome". This came from one of their beta tester/online gamer mates.

Then they are apparently releasing Complete Carriers at War, of which nobody knows just how far along the game is, what features it is having, etc etc, blah blah, and so on. And this to (of what we know) come early next year...Well...it is December...[;)] and no forum, no hype, no word...

No action on their forums here, no answers from them on any technical issues (just help from a few old gamers. And I understand that they trade pretty much exclusively through Matrix...), and no final patch for Kharkov/Across the Dnepr. Granted, it is only niggly problems that are no issue to playing the games but still, again they were apparently "almost done" on that patch and then forever silence...there is a reason I am posting this in general discussion after all...

No action on their forums there at run5, the place hasn't even been kept updated, and emails, offers of scenarios to post on their website for others to download, and so on...unanswered.

In any case, please let us know what is actually going on after you contact them Erik. I would be extremely pleased if they are still in business and continuing on, but really, the silence has been deafening.

Any news on this game? Or anything at all about the developers?

I had been a huge fan of SSG since Battlefront and was very happy when they came back with the Decisive Battles series. However, it was clear that sales were not there and in consequence SSG's presence and support has been non-existent for several years. I paid the premium price initially because I liked their games and wanted to show my support, but after Kharkov-Across the Dnepr 2nd edition, no more. Even if they do come out with this or something else, I have written them off. There are other good games and definitely more responsive developers.

What other game scratches this exact itch though? I'm still willing to pay a premium price for this one if that is what's needed.

I wish they would scratch the itch. However, even getting information about them or the game seems to need a premium price, let alone getting the game itself.

Yes I keep forgetting about HPS. Most of their games still look about the same as when they first started up. But I do admit Midway looked a whole lot better. I'm not sure why I had forgotten about it.

Does it have a decent tutorial? Does it happen to work with Windows 8? Does it really scratch that Carriers at War itch?

haha this is becoming one of those world in flames games or worse yet combat leader which was in the making for 5-7 years and then they canned it. I hate being led on too. I'm still waiting for Lock n Load hereoes of stalingrad.

I hear you RTW, but the main difference is that these guys have put out mostly top notch games since the dawn of computer wargames back in the very early 80's, year after year, so I kind of got used to waiting for the next game from them. I understand why they went silent for so long, but I thought they would have thrown a bone or two by now...after all, I am only asking so I know when I will be able to throw some money at them...

Hopefully they can tell us something in regards to their plans and how they are going.
