3 full carriers loads of airframes (I am sure that some pilots either)

There's a group of students from Poland coming this way."

This was stimulating news to our family friend, Josh, who fluently speaks four languages and is working on many others, including Polish. He clearly relished the prospect of conversing with the students in their native tongue.

Then I had a great idea. I wanted to welcome the Polish students to the shelter in their native tongue. So I quickly turned to Josh and inquired, "What do I say?"

Just a moment later, here came the Polish students filing out of the woods talking excitedly. So I stood, raised my hand, and exlaimed, "Vye-vyorka!"

They stopped dead in the their tracks with looks of consternation and uncertainty clouding their faces. So I turned to Josh. To my dismay, he was rocking back and forth laughing, with tears in his eyes.

He replied, "You said: 'squirrel'!"

Well, I suppose that would explain their consternation. Imagine filing out of an unfamiliar wilderness in a foreign land to be warned in your native tongue, "Squirrel!" Your first reactions would be: "What? Where? What might it do to me?"

I remember one US President went to Poland (Clinton maybe?) and the official translator from the US delegation used a Russian word instead of the Polish word. He was nearly strangled.

Seems about right on ships. Not sure about the air groups though. Quite a few might have recovered to Cairns or Cooktown. Admittedly, quite a few airframes were destroyed by gunfire and bombs. They wont be worth very much for a while as their command elements were probably lost.

Not sure about loss of strategic initiative until mid 43 either. He just wont be able to do carrier-heavy operations.

Captain Mandrake's AAR is one that I read and "contribute" to regularly. He has a great sense of humor and blames his mistakes on imaginary 'staff flunkies' that should have done something but didn't. He is, of course, referring to himself and his own failings.

In Mandrake's AAR he is always blaming mistakes in giving orders on his staff flunkies.

I believe Mandrake and Sprior have a staff, indeed, how else can you explain their amazing success in WWII(c) PTO and write the script to? There simply isn't the time. I think the number of button pushing illegals in hiding doing their bidding may result in a visit from the INS or at least the neighborhood association. Does the RN still approve of a good flogging? I know I do. Just thinking of their welfare, which leads me to believe some of us here in north America may actually being paying the staff. Damn, I'll have another pint.
