RE: Bloody day over Prome
Alfred thanks for the correction. Good to see you still peaking in on me. How was your trip?
Well I decided to bring in another CA SAG to Akyab to help out. I did not send the 2 CA SAG after the Jap SAG. Figured 6 CLs will beat my 2 CAs.

Familiar with it, but I thought I've seen folks making use of day light spotting and thought it was by design. Clears up some issues for me. Over and Out!
RE: Bloody day over Prome
Players have got themselves into trouble assigning waypoints to bombardment TFs so the safest course of action is to not assign any waypoints. Given "retirement allowed" and "mission speed", this means the bombardment TF will standoff until nightfall.
Of course you could always try "remain in place" and set to "max speed" but this introduces additional risks for no real additional reward.

I've screwed up Bombardments by setting waypoints. [8|] I have seen daylight bombardments, but I think they bombarded the day before and stayed in the hex. I'm getting old my memory may be off some. Well not old my wife is driving me crazy.

Hami
Chinese BF hold for a 3 day againist a Jap tank rgt.
Burma
No bombardment of Akyab.
Gastma
We do minimal damage with the naval bombardment. 4Es come in and get around 60 hits and destroy atleast 12 Tojos on the ground. We do hit Shortlands but don't do much damage.

Its quite possible to move more than 9 hexes per phase. At least in the BETA. I do so regularly in my PBEM using Fletchers set at Max speed. Just try it yourself and you will see. Its very handy to be able to strike from 11 hexes out!

That kinda scares me Joc
RE: Bloody day over Prome
I recently had a series of daytime bombardments which I did not plan. The enemy troops were NOT in a base, they were trapped in a clear hex against the coast. I sent my TFs in Surface Combat mode to a point about two or three hexes from the target, and set the float planes to night recon. Next turn I set the TF to Bombard and Retire. I left the speed at "Mission" because I understand the computer takes care of the high speed run in and out, and I wanted to minimize damage from high speed steaming.ORIGINAL: DOCUP

The TF did NOT bombard at night. It did NOT bombard during the day naval movement phase either. Only after the two Air phases did it bombard. This happened several times - I have no idea why. The TF was fully fuelled and unless it takes time to switch ammo from SC to Bombardment, there should have been no delay. I have tried to set up daytime bombardments on other occasions and could not get it to happen - as Albert says, the AI waits for the night phase. Every once in a while, though, a random daytime bombardment occurs. Seems like there is a dice roll happening for the bombardment phase.

Note that after a run of 11 hexes during the phase, the TF would have no ops points left to actually do anything ...ORIGINAL: JocMeister

There also seems to be several non base hexes the game will not allow bombardments on period. I know of two off Burma.

I have no problems neither bombarding nor sinking Jap ships after a 11 hex dash. [:)]

During the same phase? Now I am really confused about the 1000 ops points per phase and how movement uses them up!
It just seems to me that if you spent the whole phase doing the maximum movement there should be no time [points] left on the clock. Being able to dash that far and make an attack is definitely an awesome capability!

Gasmata, Shortlands AF is bombed. Rabaul has over 500 fighters with another hundred fighters and bombers at Truk. I wonder if he thinks something is up.

Thoughts
I opened a thread in the main forum. It was about old fighters. I am in the thought that the allies don't have enough airframes. I was thinking that when an airframe from the European theater of operations is push out of service it could come over the the Pacific side. My thoughts are these.
Have 2 factories that won't start producing until mid 43 or so. They start with say P40K and work their way up the chain. Upgrading when models have became obsolete. The player should have the ability to stop the upgrades or just let them continue. I don't know about how many to produce or how long to produce a certain fighter. These obsolete fighters can be used as escorts or CAP planes freeing up some of the front line planes to do sweeps or whatever the player desires. They shouldn't be much of a match for the Jap front line fighters either.
So what do you guys think of my nutty idea?

RE: Thoughts
So how does the allied production go. I have 40 P38Hs being produced a month now. Next month the P38J goes into production. Their is 10 of them. So will I only get 10 a month or with I get more?
RE: Thoughts
Agree with the general concept to introduce some obsolete fighters mid-43 on.
No factory should be needed since they are already manufactured. They could show up in a pool in Eastern USA and be strat moved to whatever location you want.
China Air Force could certainly use some of those airframes. This puts extra pressure on the Allied player not to write off China, but to get some supply there and have a base close enough to fly in the fighters.
About the P-38s, I looked at my industry screen for LA and it shows separate factories for P-38G, H, J, and L. It does not show production end dates, however. I am not sure where to find that - perhaps the Intel Screen "Aircraft Pools"?

RE: Thoughts
Its in the aircraft pool screen as BB suggests! The "J" will go into production with 10 airframes but the "production number" from the "H" version will upgrade to the "J" model adding to the total. I think it was 50 in total. Can´t remember!
And yes. Even in past mid 44 the allies will struggle with the aircraft pools. There are of course some models that have plenty in the pools like Wildcats, Kittyhawks and Cobras. But against a streamlined PDU ON Jap opponent these are useless for anything besides training.
I´m still weighing every sweep in a cost vs reward scenario and checking my pools every bloody turn. Between 6/44 and 11/44 the USAAF get whooping 110 fighter airframes per months. 80 of those are the P38 that has lost much of its edge at this point. You have to be very, very careful with what you do.

Japs bullying Chinese troops around. We stage a LRCAP againist unescorted bombers. It was 8 hexs away so 3 shot down and about 10 damaged isn't bad, considereing only 5 planes were present.
Burma
That Jap CL SAG went to Ramree during the nite. Our planes attacked durning the nite waiting the ops points for the TF. They were still their during the day. So our daytime bombers went in againist over 250 fighters. We got slaughtered for no hits. We lost 29 Beaufighters, 14 2Es, and 11 Beauforts TBs. Beaufighters and Beauforts are out of supply until the next model of the Beaufighter comes online. We do shoot down or cause 8 Tojos to be lost. I am sending in a CA SAG to see if they can run into that Jap SAG.
Solomons
I see a 4 ship TF heading to Woodlark. I am sending in a PT TF to make an intercept. Combat troops are loading for Woodlark also. Somehow 13 Jakes got shot down this turn. What the heck. That's got to hurt.
Got a report that Guards A Div was prepping for Adak. HMMMMMM
