Artillery not firing

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

Artillery not firing

Post by armonica »

Artillery that has been reattached to the original HQ after having been given direct bombarding orders does no longer fire on support.
The arty units show on call/deployed or on call/dug in status and they are well rested and in full supply, but their logs show that they have not been firing for several hours, in some case over a day although there are plenty of targets in range
I wonder if I am missing something very obvious about the reattaching procedure.
The scenario is ''Advance to the Sure'' (build 4.5.264)

Do you have a save? Preferably one from before you reattached it and another after it.

Unfortunately I only have the last save, but when I try to attach it I get this message:

C\fakepath\advance to the sure.cog is not supported

Hi armonica

First thing to check is that "Rest after bombard" is not checked in the options.

Next you should check the judgement rating of the commander.

The Judgement rating of the artillery unit immediate HQ commander. When the Judgement level is below 50, the chances of the artillery unit committing will become more erratic, sometimes lowering it, sometimes increasing it. This accounts for dubious or unsound commanders, which either conserve their ammunition too much (think of the Isaldwhana quartermaster) or happily commits his unit to too many requests (running out of ammo very quickly).

Look here at Blechley-Geek excellent article on Artillery here for more info.
Also be sure to take a look at Daves input later in the thread.

Hi dazkaz, yes ''rest after bombard'' is always unchecked and the HQ's Judgment levels around 50, some slightly above some slightly below (I assume you mean the HQ to which the arty is attached not the arty HQ itself), but they all seem to behave the same way.
I will be reading the article you referred to, thanks.

If you need to send a saved game send it to

support@panthergames.com

in a email is the easiest way I have found.

Dave can't really do a lot to help without a save, that he can use to step though the process.

This is not the kind of thing I would notice in my games, as I tend to keep direct control over them, so you may well have found a bug, if the other more obvious stuff I mentioned is not a problem.
