Switches for Windows 8

Evening gents,

I am hoping someone can give me a good steer. Been playing for a while now at a good pace, but now I am on the road for work and need to play on a different PC to normal. And its windows 8. And its barely workable at times. Can normally trudge through a turn but we have a battle for Chungking going on with 200k + troops per side, the defenders are bombarding and it takes 30 mins to run though replay for just this battle! Then when doing turn proper very laggy and slow. Plus if switch screens and back the text goes weird green and barely workable. All told everything is going much slower despite it being a reasonably decent laptop in theory (I think.. my previous 4 year old windows 7 Vaio powered through turns in less than half the time). Here are specs:

Memory : 8 GB 1600 MT/s DDR3L-SDRAM
Graphics : Intel® HD Graphics 4400
Processor : Intel® CoreTM i7-4500U 1.8 GHz

I have found a thread on switches and read the Whats New file in game directory but can't seem to work out a decent solution. Any clues? I am defo a computer user not computer expert (and my use of CVs is amatuerish too but thats another story...). Anyway, any help / steer in right direction much appreciated. By my opponent too if I can get a couple more turns a day in again. We were on 3-5 per day but now lucky to get one its so slow...

I had severe problems with screen lag when I switched to Windows 8, until I changed to windowed mode from full-screen; that seemed to solve my problems.

what's your preferred screen resolution. I am able to run it on a 5 year old netbook, 2GB, 256MB VID, 1.6GHz CPU. Try this switch, adjust your display resolution of course.

Cheers guys, I hadn't tried windows mode yet and that does work. Now its flicking through so fast I have developed epilepsy. Anybody got a good helpline for that..?
Not as graphically pleasing as full screen so will try the Colonels solution next turn and see how that plays out and report back. But at least I have a windowed solution to get up to pace again. Banzai etc...
