US Ship Database

Post by SoulBlazer »

I encourge everyone to check out the web page of the Naval War College, located here in my state at Newport:

http://www.nwc.navy.mil/library/

Among other interesting things on that site is also a very detailed listing of US ships, including service records, class information, dates sunk, and other very interesting stuff. It's a good place for UV players wanting to learn more about American ships.

One of the best places to go for info on Japanese ships is www.combinedfleet.com Besides the ship info, there's some nice Pacific War articles there also. (the one about Japan's chances in the war still staggers me when I read it.)

SoulBlazer, thanks for the link to the combined fleet site -- I could easily spend a whole lot of time browsing through there. I had a look at the NWC library, but couldn't find any of the ship listings or service records for the USN. Do you have a specific link to some of those pages?

Thanks for the kind words about the Combined Fleet site.

On the Naval War College Library website that my link takes you to, just click on the US Ships Database link at the top right of the screen.

Funny, when I view it in Mozilla, there aren't any links up there, but now that I know to look, they're clearly there in the source code. Weird. Thanks again.

Edit to add: OK, there it is. Still no idea why the link doesn't show up from the main page for me but the database is at http://www.nwc.navy.mil/usnhdb/default.htm if anyone has the same problem I did.
