ouch, but then I recognise the temptation to try and rescue lost units and thus escalate the disaster. I lost a game of Russia Under Siege because I wouldn't let a trapped army just meet its fate, threw in scarcely ready stacks to try and redeem the situation etc ... you can guess where it all ended.

Pretty much the same as here I guess [;)]

Turn 147 aka I know I used to have some numbers in my pools....

Overall
Mud! Brown, thick, slick, oily mud. How sweet. By shortening the front I've been able to form a new Ad-Hoc AGC, but it does not really matter as the USSR is able to take out my level 3 forts stacked with 3 divisions with ease by now. Not sure I want to stand at the Vistula for too long, if I can manage to mid winter, that is overachieving.
37 USSR attacks resulted in 12 helds, 20 retreats, 1 rout, 1 shatter and 4 surrenders.

Losses
Off again...

German units destroyed
2nd SS, 5th SS, 5th, 7th and 16th Panzer Divisions.
18th, 20th and the Grossdeutchland PanzerGrenadier Divisions.
17th, 131st, 263rd Infantry Divisions.
226th, 244th, 245th, 259th, 904th StuG Brigades.
663rd, 664th Panzerjager Battalions.
752nd Pioneer Battalion.
1st, 2nd Lehr Pioneer Battalion.
5/31st, 4/46th, 6/46th, 3/66th SP Flak Company.
706th SP Infantry Gun Company.

German units disbanded
2P Air Base.

Partisans
1 remain after we kill 7.

Turn 148

Overall
Not much happens in the mud, but the USSR does land some brigades behind the main line on the Black Sea Coast. No threat, and they should die next turn. The USSR does try to keep attacking, but to little result.
9 helds and 1 retreat for a total of 10 attacks is considered peaceful by us at this time. We did launch 2 attacks, scoring 1 held and 1 retreat on the amphibious brigades.

Losses
USSR : 54.000 troops, 350 guns, 110 AFVs, 195 AC.
Axis : 26.000 troops, 314 guns, 60 AFVs, 31 AC

German units disbanded
1 Fortified Zone.

Partisans
We kill 5, leaving 2 on the map.

Distance to Berlin
The USSR unit closest to Berlin is 53 hexes away.

Turn 149

Overall
Another quiet turn, but there are a few concerns. The USSR scores too many retreats considering the mud, and I have divisions with 4000 men in them...
12 USSR attacks scores 6 helds and 6 retreats. 50% is too high during mud. Our two attacks score 1 held and 1 retreat.
And as some has urged us to do for long, some of our tactical bombers have been converted to fighters (Bf109s and FW190As).

Losses
USSR : 47.000 troops, 414 guns, 117 AFVs, 173 AC.
Axis : 33.000 troops, 505 guns, 48 AFVs, 31 AC

Partisans
We kill 10, leaving 3 on the map.

Turn 150

Overall
At last the destroyed divisions have been released, and our trains ship as many as possible straight to the front.
We launched 3 attacks, scoring 1 held, 1 retreat and 1 surrender, while the USSR's 16 attacks ended with 10 helds and 6 retreats.

Losses
USSR : 55.000 troops, 512 guns, 127 AFVs, 239 AC.
Axis : 34.000 troops, 500 guns, 52 AFVs, 45 AC.

Total Losses
USSR : 6.340.000 troops, 119.623 guns, 33.889 AFVs, 41.103 AC.
Axis : 3.916.000 troops, 73.088 guns, 16.678 AFVs, 9.026 AC.

USSR units destroyed
1 Ski Brigade

German units disbanded
The 335th Infantry Division is merged into the 306th Infantry Division after the former was down to 1600 men.

Partisans
2 remain after we kill 3.

Turn 151

Overall
The weather clears in the south. This is not good. Not at all.
23 USSR attacks resulted in 16 helds, 1 scouted and 6 retreats, while our 5 attacks gave 3 retreats, 1 rout and 1 shatter this turn. The first three hexes are at fort level 2 at the Vistula, and another 3 expected to be at that level next turn.
We keep shipping units to AGC, and we pray the weather in the south turns bad again.

Losses
USSR : 58.000 troops, 607 guns, 167 AFVs, 242 AC.
Axis : 34.000 troops, 617 guns, 23 AFVs, 140 AC.

USSR units destroyed
1 Ski Brigade

German units destroyed
The 2/46th SP Flak Company is wiped out.

German units disbanded
The 254th Infantry Division is merged into the 7th Infantry Division.

Partisans
1 remain on the map after we kill off 3.

Would not mind it if some of the factory workers joined the manpower pool at this time...

Your pic from turn 147 of the destroyed forces is quite impressing, Terje.

But what's much more remarkable is your attitude; no whining, no nagging, no further delaying etc. - this did really good. :-)

totally agree, and its always interesting to see an AAR from a side that is struggling. Tis hard to see the rest of 1944 as being anything but grim though that Vistula line should give you a valuable backstop

Thank you [&o]
Although, what YOU guys get ofc is the family approved version. My keyboard might not agree with you at times [:D]
Tbh, I know that if I mess up (and I usually do), I will pay the price for it, but I'll take it. Nowadays I think the only thing that still really gets to me is the way CV is...hmm to say way off would be an understatement...at times [;)]

Oh, my AARs should be good for seeing the struggling side [:D]
I doubt the Vistula will stop Sean long enough, the line is simply too long. From experience I should be able to hold just outside Berlin for some turns, but I think Sean will win this in the winter of -44/45. So, I will probably last shorter than irl Adolf [X(]

Turn 152

Overall
Sean is doing too good a job beating up my weaker units, and this in turn costs me extra troops due to retreats. And my so-called line is not going to hold at all when mud is gone, so in 1 or 2 turns I will have to start walking backwards to avoid any more huge pockets being formed.
39 USSR attacks resulted in 27 helds (very good actually), 1 scouted (not sure I like these. "Chaaarge", oh, only parts of the division attacked. Well, we walk away with limited casualties". Not sure that is the way it would have worked out, but oh well) and 11 retreats. We launched all of 1 attack, scoring a retreat (hey, atleast we are still attacking [:D]).

Losses
USSR : 70.000 troops, 850 guns, 202 AFVs, 272 AC.
Axis : 49.000 troops, 821 guns, 101 AFVs, 39 AC.
When it comes to my rather low amount of lost AFvs lately, that is ofc due to my panzers being in the West refitting.

German units disbanded
The 239th Infantry Division is merged into the 98th Infantry Division.

Partisans
We kill 5 out of a total of 7.

German Pools
Manpower : 8

Do not lose hope! The Western Allies will be crushed on the fields of Normandy and together with the new "Wunderwaffen" the Wehrmacht soon will resume the offence in Eastern direction. [:D]

Turn 153

Overall
With the mud most likely being gone next turn, and some of our units already in danger, and with our line broken in several places, we begin a slow retreat. The USSR made 20 attacks and scored 9 helds and 11 retreats (in mud! This shows the state of our divisions). We make no attacks whatsoever.

Losses
USSR : 55.000 troops, 531 guns, 159 AFVs, 246 AC.
Axis : 45.000 troops, 666 guns, 101 AFVs, 56 AC.

Turn 154

Overall
We keep falling back one hex more or less along the entire front, and try to move the Rumanians to the frontline to allow them to take the casualties. We launched no attacks, while the USSR scored 1 scouted, 1 retreat and 1 rout with their 3 attacks.

Losses
USSR : 29.000 troops, 47 guns, 61 AFVs, 146 AC.
Axis : 19.000 troops, 94 guns, 28 AFVs, 29 AC.

German units destroyed
The 1/540th SP Flak Company.

seems to be the calm before the coming storm.

presume from your list of disbands you have started to garrison your prepared rear lines?
