Oh heck, I don't know. I'm not a real pothead. Never was a real pothead actually, just an afficianado. Kinda remember ye olde epic smokes and had a soft place for them, that's all. Kinda like the real old days when smoking Players or Balkan Sobranie meant something. Oh well, life goes on and gets more boring [;)]ORIGINAL: Chickenboy
Symon,
It's my understanding that the cultivators of this plant substance haven't been standing still in the last 40 years. They've improved the yield, genetics and THC concentration significantly over time, such that today's bud is so much more potent than that of the 60s. Do you think ye olde epic smokes that you mention would stand up to the modern breeds and varieties? I've seen some of those that are so 'oily' as to be dripping.
I have a meeting next year in Denver. I'll have to go on a 'fact finding' expedition there. Care to accompany me, Fodder? [8D]

Sobranie is Turkish tobacco. Aromatic and mildly soporific/hallucinogenic, as tobacco used to be. Used to be able to get it here long ago, but alas ...ORIGINAL: Chickenboy

Woof !! 6% is pretty outrageous. But, don't forget, THC is a stereoisomer. IIRC it's the levo isomer that turns you into a grinning moron with a craving for Screaming Yellow Zonkers and the dextro isomer don't do squat. Not that I know anything about it
but waaay back in maybe 1972, High Times published an article about how to buy Iowa Green from the football players and cook it down and extract the hash oil. Since it was so wimpy, there was a section on how to do an isomerization, with nitric acid, over a slo-cooker, and the timing was the length of one of the Stooge's shows. Not that I know anything about it
I just heard about it you understand.Anyway, the isomerization process was supposed to up the levo form from about 8 to about 15% of the total THC content. Now I wouldn't know anything about that, but I heard, from a source I trust, that the product was pretty wicked. Ahhh, youth. It's so wasted on the young.[8D]
Ciao. John

One of my Syrian friends gave me a nargile a few years back. May just have to get it out again after this discussion, John. Damn interesting isomerization process you heard about there. The timing mechanism was about one of the funniest damn things I'd heard in some time. Very nice. [8D]

I'm older than most of you so I remember some way-back stuff, but if this can actually happen, we could get some stuff like we used to. It's all gone, now, because quantity is everything, but there was some righteous stuff back in the 60s. Much like the single malt craze, I can forsee some entrepeneurs fiddling with the plants and re-introducing some of the epic smokes: Red Panamanian, Acapulco Gold, Oaxaca, Tapachula, Michuacan; and where flowers and tip leaves means sonething, and none of that sticks and seeds doo doo.
