Alternate Ship Construction

Post by John 3rd »

I know there are several good sites out there for alternative naval construction/conversions from during the war. Anyone able to point me in a useful direction?

That is a nice site. I wish they had the specs to go with the ship drawings.

The No. 13 class BB with 6x18" guns and 37-kt top speed... [X(]. Sounds like a bit of a wet dream on the speed, but by skimping on armor and secondary armament they surely could've made it 30+.

Maybe it was a typo, and he meant to type 27 knots instead.

I have usually seen speeds around 30 knots listed.

To the OP do a websearch for "never were ships".

perfectly to escape and retreat

Perfect to sink the enemy MTBs :)
Only Scipione Africano saw combat. Equipped with the Italian-developed EC.3 Gufo radar,[5] she detected and engaged four British Elco motor torpedo boats lurking five miles ahead during the night of 17 July 1943, while passing the Messina straits at high speed off Punta Posso.[6] She sank MTB 316 and heavily damaged MTB 313 between Reggio di Calabria and Pellaro, on the position 38°3′20.20″N 15°35′28.35″E.[7][8][9] A dozen British seamen lost their lives in this action.[10] The engagement lasted no more than three minutes.

Capitani Romani-class Cl cruiser

Can go in Top speed Test over 43 Kt..... this is not very healthy for the Propulsion. The ship was empty by the speed Test !
