LCU fragments while unloading

Post by deadprez »

Hey guys, a bit of a problem unloading 2 engineer units at Luganville early in the war (Allies). Port size is "1", and my APs were too big to dock. So most of each of the units unloaded and are doing their work (expanding everything) but 480 equipment remain on the APs. The APs are still 'unloading' but there has been no change for a month. Tips? Suggestions? Link? Thank you so much in advance for any responses.

The port facilities are too small to handle the heavy equipment aboard the ships. You have two choices: (1) wait until your engineers build the port big enough so that the ship can dock, or (2) get some naval support to the base (nav support is found in certain units, including the big USN base forces, some specialized units (USN Port Service A, B, C, etc.) and some HQ (SWPac, for instance).

This is why it's considered best by most players to use amphibious missions to level 1 ports.

The same devices that are too large and unwieldy to unload at a level 1 port that doesn't have an adequate wharf can be unloaded over the beaches by an amphibious TF.

ok, thank you for the quick response! my port is about 40% toward expansion to level 2. rather than wait (perhaps another month), i will rush over another engineer unit with naval support. hopefully i won't end up with another stuck AP...

edit- and i will use amphibious TF- thanks.

You can look in the manual to find out how much naval support you will need to unload the equipment. You can find the load cost of the equipment either by looking at the fragment (total of 480, if it's all the same device you can just divide by number of devices, otherwise you can look in the 'D' hotkey database).

You may be able to change the type of the TF to amphibious and "force" it to unload that way. Maybe not. Or you may be able to change the type, but it may still refuse to unload without the port meeting requirements.

Or you can go unload the fragment in a larger port, and then load it into a larger amphib TF. If you spread the unit around more (and smaller) ships, they'll unload faster even in smaller ports.

haha I think you nailed it my friend :D

It won't let me change the TF to Amphib because (I assume) there is equipment on it. To wait for the port to expand is too long. And there is no ENG unit (with NS) in close range to bring there. So I will bring the fragments to Townsville and reload them into an Amphib.

Thanks so much everyone.
