Game continually crashes Nvidia driver

Post by jg400a »

I bought this last night (16thAug), started playing the first campaign , and it continually crashes in game (resetting the Nvidia driver until the game finally hangs) ,thus the game is unplayable

I have attached a dxdiag extract

Hello,

thanks for dxdiag - could you please provide the logs of the game which are located at:

C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\Germany at War

The logs should be copied directly after a crash as starting the game erases old logs and the important data is lost.

Hello,

the logs indicate a frequent change of applications as if you used alt+f4 often.

Do you recall switching to other programm while playing the game, at all?

Did you play in windowed or full screen mode ?

I was trying to alt- tab out the application as the screen had gone black and locked I was trying to get to windows and use task manager to close the app

I have also raised a support incident and they have suggested the following;

...
4. Click on the "Matrix Games" folder.

5. Click on the "Germany at War Barbarossa 1941" folder.

6. Right click on the "Germany at War" file and select "Properties".

7. Follow instructions given at /how-to-run-older-programs-under-windows-8

NOTE -> In step 3 of the instructions given at /how-to/content/how-to-run-older-programs-under-windows-8 change the compatibility mode to "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)" and tick the "Run this program as an administrator", "Disable visual themes", "Disable desktop composition" and "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" boxes underneath the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" check box.

(I have removed links so that I can post)

For information "Disable visual themes", "Disable desktop composition" options weren't available however I followed the other instructions and had a short game were no issues arose , I haven't given it a full testing yet but can you explain to the wider audience why these settings might work?

Hello,

it seems disabeling those windows features prevents them to interfere with the game.

We had some trouble with Windows 7 and graphical features of the OS that disappeared after they were disabled, too.

So basically this solved your problem ?
