An Aussie Affair: Re-Match!
Well gee thanks for the post Luskan, before I had a chance to view the replay:p .
I am sure that the damage is not as bad as reported, and it has pretty much gutted on of Luskans surface TFs. The fact that he scuttles his ships shows that he has no faith in his mens ability( and is fixated on points). This war is a long one, and that SHALL be won by the allies.

Never argue with an idiot, he will only drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
With the recent surface victory (it wasn't a total victory - I did loose two smaller CAs, a CL and DDs too etc.) Raver's surface fleet has been chopped down by maybe a fifth or a sixth. Especially in the destroyer department - I know by now he should have two battlewagons to lob shells around the place.
Knowing Raver will want to save face - and avoid my autovictory so he can enjoy the overwhelming USN superiority in the late game (although I still plan to win on points if that happens!) I'm expecting him to mount an offensive around the same time I'm readying for an autovictory attempt (Nov or Dec) simply to put me off schedule and put me off stroke.
To foil his offensive plans and negate his anticipated delay-suicide tactic, I need to hurt his surface force a couple more times. I don't need big victories - just battles that keep the exchange rate constant. Without his surface fleet he will be unable to screen any invasions (IJN BBs amongst USN transports don't leave any survivors - been on the recieving end of that so many times I've learnt my lesson).
Then again, if Tanaka is in charge he won't be satisfied with the devastating long lance attempts and may try to a: Ram each of his ships into the enemy to sink them in close action, or b: Pull alongside and "Banzai/Away boarders!!!" (not advisable against USN transports known to be packed to the hatches with Marines . . . ).
May need a slightly less kamikaze admiral to take charge. Kono did a great job in the early surface combats with numerous victories and a few stalemates . . .

The recent surface battle with Luskan was like the original first naval battle of Ironbottom sound......things did not go well for the allies, and they didn't go well with me. I currently have a number of ships that are limping to Noumea, some still afloat after heroic efforts of their crews to save them and I still fear that one might have to be scuttled. Yes I have been badly stung, but revenge will indeed be sweet.

Our game
Didnt work.......
Maybe ..... could you go back to the previous turn that I sent you and process again so that may solve the problem ...everyone elses is working fine.....
All Im thinking now is that when you processed your turn the file some how got corrupted ...... I dont know
But all my games e-mail to my other opponents alright and this one of ours I tried to mail to ork and it didnt work either.

I'll let Raver post the results, but it was another action packed turn, which although I got the best of, Raver was a step ahead of me and foiled my plan to run a small INF unit into Vannu Lava to massacre his Eng troops there (he managed to sneak in his own INF unit, so I think it is curtains for my boys!).
Just as well I escorted the fast transport group though - bloody USN ships swarming towards Vannu LAva when they detected my ships like bloody bees to honey. USN ships retired before ever making contact with my fast transport group.
On the whole I think Komatsu did a better job than Tanaka - much smaller butchers bill while the exchange rate against Raver is still excellent. Of course, now I have more damaged ships to send back to Japan.

Ok guys...here is what really happened !
Ka boom!
There was a huge naval battle at Vanua Lava which I think has surprised both sides. First indications of something being in the wind came on the 3rd of the October from Pearl, with IJN communication intercepts showing a
gathering of a TF and the usual jap chatter about timings and load-outs and the intended bearing to and from. With this intel in hand 3 TFs were rushed to Vanua Lava tasked with destroying the Jap TF. The makeup of the 3 TFs were as follows;
TF 232
2 X CLs
5 X DDs
TF 186
1 X CL
3 X CAs
3 X DDs
TF 184
1 X CA
1 X CL
4 X DDs
With the bit firmly between their teeth and morale high the ships slipped their moorings and steamed into harmsway. The first contact with the enemy showed the effectiveness of radar, and the allied ships surprised the Jap raiders, but were shocked to find a massive fleet of no less than 25 ships! 1 BB, 4 CLs and 19 DDs! Undauted the first Allied TF opened fire, and was quickly joined by the other two TFs. In a furious battle 4 Allied DDs were sunk in exchange for 2 IJN CLs. The USS San Fransico was mortally wounded, and her gallent crew fought all night to save her, but daylight revielled shocking damaged that would not see her make it to port, and so was abandoned and scuttled. The sunrise signalled the turn of the dive bombers and crews from USN and Marine squadrons took off to hunt down the crippled jap warships, sinking one and causing further damage to at least one CL and two DDs.
Intelligence believes that at the IJN BB will require repairs as will at least one CL and 6 DDs.
To cap this off a small enemy infantry unit with the support of an engineer unit were landed at Vanua Lava, both of which are living on borrowed time.
All in all it was a good result for the Allies, but the code-breakers need to lift their game, I cannot afford mistakes in not knowing the enemy TFs sizes again. Had I known the true size of the enemy TF I doubt that I would have committed to battle.

Raver's intel is a bit off. No shells penetrated the Hiei's armour, and I've got 3 CLs home to Lunga (one of them sank, not two), but Raver did get those two DDs that got bombed.
So I lost a CL and two DDs, he lost 4 DDs and a CA, with a few damages on top of that.
Nice to add another big shiny USN CA to the underwater museum I'm building across the Pacific. That makes three in the one spot I think?

We are at 2.3. I have been training my bomber crews for months now and most of them are exp 70 or more. I also suspect that I might have hit a Carrier of some type, but intel has not been able to confirm this.

I'm not the one keeping my head down - I'm asleep! Raver has used his ships for how many offensive raids during this war? 1!! It cost him plenty of CVs though. His ships haven't been on a single offensive mission since. Me - I've sent plenty of surface combat tfs to maul Raver's fleet in his own waters - and lost a few ships to those dauntlesses at Wupenko too! But then with my undamaged level bomber and fighter force, and my now almost completely repaired naval air arm (averaging an experience of 75-80 for each bomber squadron) and his missing several CVS . . . . well I can understand why he's using his LRBs and nothing else.
I'm just keeping my air force out of combat for the most part. I'll need them later - my level bombers and zeroes have barely lost 15 planes each since the start of the war.
My zeroes barely do any CAP - seeing as Raver will just change his altitude to above 35000 the moment I do anyway. He isn't doing enough damage to worry about his LRBs just yet - and every flak gun I own is waiting for the time Raver decides to try 6000ft (or even better, 1000ft). Of course, that time he'll do damage, but he'll have his b17s offline for months.
There was a false alarm where a drunk pilot reported an enemy CV south of Lunga, and I freaked out a bit but it was a sub after all that.
Raver has an impenetratable wall of subs around Truk - you literally won't find a hex in or out of Truk without driving over a USN sub. So, I'm not sending anything in or out until they run out of fuel.
When I take Raver on in WITP he won't be able to pin Truk up against the edge of the map like this . . . drool . . .

Er......no! It was twisting and turning like a carp out of water. The intel guy who flew on the mission says that it's wake was at least ten times as long as the ship.
