How to get Sara home

Post by coreyjones »

So recently in my A.I game sara along with indomitable and hermes got into a roughin with the Ryujo and the Shoho. Indomitable and Hermes both got bloody noses and will be fine but sara got the short straw and made it to soerabaja with 75 systems, 45 flood, and 11 engine damage after the result of a ammo storage explosion and fires raging for two days.. I got the flooding down and couldnt get the systems down by pierside repairs so i risked sending her to colombo but i guess the horrible systems damage let the flooding increase again and now she is stuck in banjoewangi until i can get ar's over there. So whats my chances of getting her out of the DEI before the japs land? Also it is feb of 42.

Well, normally I'd say poor, but the AI can't cope. Just get all the major damage fixed and get her out of there.

Remember to use cruise speed to minimize extra damage from travel.

True. Applies to ALL seriously damaged ships you have to move.

Would anyone consider Cape as a better destination at this point?
I'd rather be lucky than good.

You might as well. It'll take FOREVER to fix her up at Colombo or any other of the Indian yards. Send her to the US East Coast via Cape Town.

She'll be in the body shop a LONG time. If you can get her there. Best thing would be to consider her lost now and be overjoyed when you are able to save her. Imagine all the books, movies and TV shows about her over the next 50 years when you DO save her!

Since it's against the AI, I might try port-hopping her to Darwin and get the Sys damage down there. Denpasar, Mataram, couple other stops, Koepang for a bit in preparation for the longer hop to Darwin.

Obviously you can't fully repair her there, but it's a safe enough place to repair a lot of the System damage, though it will take a very long time. But that's better than losing her permanently.

Problem with Darwin is that it's bit of "dead end"...Sydney repair yard cannot fit Saratoga-class CV (IIRC, Sydney yard is 30k..one reason I operate only Yorktown-class CVs from Australia).

I would try it because it can have a medium-sized port, and with Naval Support, the System damage can be repaired faster than anywhere else short of risking a hop to Colombo with 75 System. I think the OP said that the actual float damage isn't too bad (45 or so?), so if he repairs the System at Darwin to less than 10 he should be able to sail her from there to anywhere big enough to fit her. It'll just take a long, long time.

Don't forget an AR, there is one in the DEI it can help the critical damage. Sydney is a better option since Darwin will be vulnerable in case KB comes a calling.

Getting to a major repair yard with the capacity to take on such a large ship is key in the long run. Cape Town to Eastern US sounded like the best bet. Concentrate on getting as much of the floatation damage taken care of as possible before sending her to Cape Town. Cruise speed all the way...
So much WitP and so little time to play.... :-(
