Given the game date and that you do not have Palembang, I'm wondering how is your oil and fuel situation?

So...

In the Marshalls I've been kicking butt and taking names. I've killed 3 carriers and a CVL. I'm gearing up to throw Steve out of Eniwetok. I've moved in some battleships and additional CVL. I'm also bumping up Ponape with air support. The airfield there just went up to level 2.

In China I'm still massing for Chungking

Over near Port Blair I lost a pair of carriers and the Yamato. I had to go back through a pair of turns to see what happened with the Yamato. I *think* it diverted its course due to avoiding an enemy TF. It wound up two hexes from Steve's Wasp Group and was sunk along with a CA and pair of DD.

Air production is ramping up well with fighters and bombers.

In Burma we sit with big stacks looking @ each other. Steve took Tavoy and has managed to get a TF to it that I'm sure added troops but I don't yet know how much. I've got Japanese LCU marching over to take a look.

I just sent the movie to Steve after receiving the turn around 1400 SoCal time.

I’m unloading fuel @ Kwajalein. Steve is bouncing subs around the Marshalls. The Pollack & Thrasher came after my tanker TF and the DD Yagao put some dents in it. The Herring was seen in the Marshall chain of isles. Triton had bad fish @ Ponape and the Greyback attacked with bad fish at Truk.

I’ve got bombers going after Eniwetok to pound the airfield and ports. I want to place enough damage there that Steve won’t get the forts built up too fast. A BB SCTF should arrive next turn to make a few holes.

Normal base attacks at Chungking, Rangoon, Palambang are flown. There are increases planned for Rangoon, Chungking, and Sarabajo.

Allied Rangoon ground casualties reported by Combat Report for this turn: (Squad 0/8) (Non C 4/31) (ENG 0/0) (Guns 9/22). I’ve been doing this kind of damage for the last 15-20 days… It all adds up. Right now I’m building up prep points for my troops @ Rangoon. My stack AV=3,032 and supplies are over double. I remember that having more than 2X supplies used to give an attack bonus. My prep points seem to go up 2 to 3 pts per turn for the units in my stack.

At Chungking my ground units have merged into a single stack with 9,251 AV. Supplies are just above what’s needed for my units. I’m using TR and MB to fly in additional supplies to see if I can get their level to increase. This is a mighty big hammer and I want every advantage I can get.

The 19th Mixed Brigade is 24/46 miles from Tavoy. Steve has been hitting this unit with bombers to try and slow it down. One of those Chinese Corps He had marched through Thailand is working its way down the coast just south of Moulmein towards Tavoy.

Steve is suggesting I go fishing for a day or three as he's working on his first turn in his second game. We'll see if he can keep up - I'm still churning out 4-5 turns a week.

There were a lot of sub attacks (I mean a lot!!!) over near the Marshalls/Truk waters. I lost a couple of PB but all of the good targets were blessed with thumps on the sides of their hulls from duds. Steve has gotta be cursing those fubar American torps.

I must have been sicker than I thought yesterday. I sent a BB TF to Eniwetok to bombard the base but left it on surface combat. And I sent bombers to take out the airfield @ Port Blair and left them on ground attack. Sheesh.

Still – although the turn was mellow-dramatic, what with all the allied sub activity and all, I’m just pushing troops along in China & Burma, playing whack-a-mole in the Pacific, and waiting for troops to rebuild over in the PI. Oh yeah – I’m making a lot of air planes too…

Well it shouldn't be to tough to take Sumatra and Java. I'm still rebuilding the LCUs from the PI. Maybe another 30 days until they are full strength and ready to deploy.

I'm getting ready for Chungking. Once that's done and the ground Chinese forces eradicated I'll be funneling about 10,000AV into Burma...

I think I can hold at Rangoon as long as I'm prepped and well supplied plus have support to call on.

I could be wrong though - I'm sure Steve has something else planned. I've been lucky in that he's been shoe-stringing it. I think it's cuz this is his 1st PBEM. He's learning fast tho. Experience is the mother of all instructors.

24 JUL 42
I got in the bombardment @ Eniwetok and the TFs are now headed for bullets & beans. This plus my bomber groups should keep the forts from building up too fast. The TF to retake Eniwetok is en route.

A supply TF for my Burma forces was caught by bombers from Port Blair. I had some CAP that helped. So far so good. I hit Port Blair airfield later in the turn and put some holes in the AF and killed/damaged a few bombers on the ground. I also got in some more good hits on the allied ground units @ Rangoon.

I swept Soerabaja pretty heavy this turn.

Steve ran 4E @ Truk and I spanked them pretty good. He got no hits on my shipping or the port.

At Kendari I forgot to CAP my fighters and Steve got in some good hits with his 4E. No CAP – I get hurt. Good CAP and I tend to take little damage. Two DD, a CL, an AV, and a pair of xAK get hurt. Nothing too bad – but I say that cuz there are small or no fires on the ships. Anyway – there’s CAP now and if they can chill for a turn or three I’ll send them to the homeland.

The normal sub attacks in the Pacific take place but are mercifully painless. I get in my bombing attacks at Eniwetok, in Java, Sumatra, Burma, and China.

But this turn something exciting is s’posed to happen… I snuck a bombardment TF of 2CA, 5CL, & 18 DD up the Strait of Malacca to bombard that big stack of meat Steve has sitting in Rangoon. The last couple of turns I’ve been snickering to myself – imagining the scores of squads of Chinese and Indian troops that were fixin’ to be pummeled by the mighty naval platforms I was sending their way.

So I’m gunna guess that sending FP from a CA will only work with that CA… I didn’t know that! I thought the flippin’ fly-boy would spot for the whole damned task force. And it’s not like everybody and their mother doesn’t know Steve’s big stack of troops isn’t sitting @ Rangoon blowing razzberries at my big stack of troops. And it’s not like I haven’t been regularly bombing Steve’s troops for the past month and a half…

Oh yeah – Kendari…

I get my CAP on. Steve flies his 4E over for a visit. My CAP is @ 9k and it looks like his 4E are at 5k so I should be set. Nope… The estimated time to target is 8 min. I’m wondering if that’s the problem – the detection was too late? Anyways – Steve drops a load of yucky on my ships there.

@ Kendari Steve is putting paid to a few DD/CL that I can’t clear out from previous days of attack with his B-17s. I thought of scuttling them but I just can’t go there. I think that kinda stuff is chicken-shit; Steve got in the attacks – he should get the points. I’m pretty sure the reason his attacks are better here is the warning system. Steve’s attacks are spotted 0 & 5 min out but it’s taking me 8 min to get my full CAP up. I think I need ENG with radar or something.

I get in another good bombardment @ Rangoon that does next to nothing. Anyone have thoughts on how to improve my results? I’ve got FP assigned to night recon but there’s not a lot of result for all the shells I’m tossing at his big stack…

I did get better results from the bombing attacks by my air groups tho. I wonder if the naval bombardments at night works as some kind of a bonus to the day-time bombing attacks. Maybe higher disruption or uses up more supplies from Steve’s Big Stack?

Rota falls back into the warm embrace of the Empire after the piss-ant force Steve left to die is obliterated. I really hate this penny-ante stuff – it detracts from the game. If he wants to take a group of isles then come do it. Taking a base with a fragment just to have me come take it back is just BS.

In China My big stack is in Chungking but a little low on supplies. I’ve got cargo TFs unloading at Wuchang and Hankow. I mean big cargo TFs – 70,000 tons & 55,000 tons. All of a sudden those bases up north like Neikiang & Chengtu seem to be getting supplies… Go figure. Anyway I’m hoping in a turn or three my big stack @ Chungking suddenly gets well supplied.

Same with Pegu in Burma. I’ve been dumping supplies next door at Rangoon and having close to a fit ‘cause Pegu remained critically low on supplies. I’m in the process of dumping 40k tons of supplies at Moulmein and wambo – Pegu loads up with almost 8k supplies the next turn. Figuring out the supply lines in this game is a chore.

Well I don't see any ships with radar yet... I did notice that a few of my engineer units with air support do upgrade to a Ta-Chi 2 Radar...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Japanese_World_War_II_radar

I can only hope they upgrade while Steve is attacking the base so I can compare the results...

Steve is starting to bring bombers to Moulmein & Rangoon. My CAP is keeping things ok for now. A couple of units @ Rangoon and Moulmein are sporting the Ta-Chi radar this turn so I’ll get an opportunity to compare reaction/spot times. Steve brought out an air group of Fulmar II to attack shipping near Rangoon but they had no escort and most were shot down.

Full moon brought out the subs but I got by pretty light this turn. Steve did tap an AO @ Kwajalein but it was empty and I think it’ll be alright.

I 4got to mention that I did a deliberate attack @ Roi-Namur that went off pretty sad. Steve counters this turn and experiences a similar sad-azzed attack.

I’ll be giving it a go at Chungking this turn. I'm bringing more fighters into the Burma theatre. Steve’s been pretty tight with his fighters. I’m thinking he’s either gathering them for a storm or I’ve whittled his fighter pool down to the nubs.

Sub action takes out a couple of PB this turn. One was lost in the Marshalls and the other near Balikpapan. Night action – moonlight 96%... Steve flies a few bombers at Roi-Namur but my CAP stands tall.

Steve dumps 3 or 4 subs near Rangoon/Moulmein but my TFs over there skate past. I get in another night-time naval bombardment at Rangoon that chalks up 13 casualties. Whoo-hoo! I also spank Port Blair and crater the runway. In Burma I also sweep Ramree and Prome.
I also have a go at Tavoy with the 19th Indian Mixed Brigade:
Ground combat at Tavoy (54,60)

At Soerabaja I get in some decent attacks on the airfield there. I kill a few AC on the ground and put some foxholes in the airfield runway.

You've done very well to be at the gates of Chungking in July '42, but Chungking itself is usually a hard target.

In China I did a deliberate attack @ Chungking. The flipping base has level 7 forts. I get spanked.

Anybody have some advice/suggestion on attacking fort 7 Chungking?

I've only recently started with the investment of Chungking, so don't have anything substantive to offer. I've heard from others that Chungking is a doosy and needs to be reduced over several months. I believe it.

I'm bombarding the Chungking AF daily with IJAAF to keep it damaged and ensure that the engineers have something to do other than build forts. The occasional AF supply hits are nice to get too. Surrounding it with LCUs and turning ALL of the hexside controls to the IJ will ensure that no supply 'leaks' into Chungking from outside. I've taken to importing artillery units from here, there and everywhere-they'll be in theater shortly. Once situated, ground bombardment will commence on a daily basis too.

Let us know details of how you accomplish this reduction, will you please?

Wow. A lot of losses and no fort reduction. I'd say the air force is the way forward and a lot of arty bombardments. Since you have no HR I'm sure the supply producing industry is gone, so once he's out of supply the forts won't matter. In a few months when your forces have recovered it'll be a very different attack.

You could also try some sooner with just tanks and engineers. Those don't get hurt as badly by the Chinese usually, as seems to be the case in your attack above. I'd Da once a week with the tanks to try and lower forts while bombing out the supply and bombing the troops to keep disruption high.

Massive air bombardments. I'm not much a fan of arty as it increases the CHI exp too fast. But, I would have pretty much the entire IJA bomber force there, all sally's. 6-8K ft level. Plan to DA every 7 - 10 days. Get more fresh troops there to rotate a bit. Be sure you have your command HQ in range and prepped. Get all your corp HQ's in hex and prepped to have all the support troops you can available. 3 months ...
